Firefox problem

I've already hit it with a hammer and reinstalled Java so I thought I'd ask the resident experts on here for help.

 

Firefox has been freezing on me for the last few weeks, almost every time i click on a link or open a new tab it freezes for a while and takes ages for anything to happen, the pages load quickly enough when it unfreezes, but sometimes it never unfreezes at all and I have to close down the program.

 

I'm not sure if it's a problem with the software or if it's my RAM, I've 5 tabs open at the moment and task manager says it's using 140,000k of memory, is this normal?

 

I don't think I've installed anything or changed any settings over the last few weeks that could have caused it.

 

Anyone have any idea what the problem is or some way of finding out what it is?
