Guest Ant Posted August 26, 2007 Posted August 26, 2007 Why on Earth didn't he get Voronin last year instead of Bellamy. Voronin already looks the business!
baja the hut Posted August 26, 2007 Posted August 26, 2007 Why on Earth didn't he get Voronin last year instead of Bellamy. Voronin already looks the business! He is doubling up as a bad guy in some rambo movie.... seriously though he does look the business and with 2 goals in as many starts might just be the sleeper hit for golden boot amongst the forwards!
Guest RedIsMyColour Posted August 26, 2007 Posted August 26, 2007 I thought he was average yesterday. Took his goal well but he wasted possesion on numerous occasions.
Guest Ant Posted August 26, 2007 Posted August 26, 2007 I thought he was average yesterday. Took his goal well but he wasted possesion on numerous occasions. He's displayed more effort and promise in 2 Games than Bellamy did in One Season.... This guy is going to be our secret weapon and I have no doubt he will really push who is considered 1st Choice (Kuyt) for his starting place...
Woodsyla Posted August 26, 2007 Posted August 26, 2007 (edited) I thought he was average yesterday. Took his goal well but he wasted possesion on numerous occasions. An average striker who, in his first two starts, makes one and scores one in a two goal away win, and scores the only goal in a vital away European victory will do for me. Koogan Posted August 26, 2007 Posted August 26, 2007 I was amazed how easily people here wrote him off when we signed him. I knew he'd be good. I just knew it!
Guest RedIsMyColour Posted August 26, 2007 Posted August 26, 2007 He's displayed more effort and promise in 2 Games than Bellamy did in One Season.... He has showed promise and I hope he continues to progress but I think people are getting carried away with him. He has scored 5 goals in about 44 internationals and has never had a prolific record. However, he works hards and is certainly not rubbish by any means.
Stevie H Posted August 26, 2007 Posted August 26, 2007 we didn't get him last season because his contract hadn't expired. think the way we moved for him so quickly and early this summer was a sign that we clearly rated him.
Kite Posted August 26, 2007 Posted August 26, 2007 He has showed promise and I hope he continues to progress but I think people are getting carried away with him. He has scored 5 goals in about 44 internationals and has never had a prolific record. However, he works hards and is certainly not rubbish by any means. He has put some excellent crosses into the box in various games he has played, played intelligent through balls, very good off the ball movement in general, gets into dangerous positions, tracks back when needed, shows composure in front of goal. Plus, he just scored one and made one in what could have been a difficult game. I didn't see him "waste" possession very much at all but there certainly were a few moments when he and Torres didn't click which is something that would be typical in players rarely playing together. Or that moment near the end where the two of them were too bollixed to take advantage of the two on one situation. Basically, he is demonstrating all the hallmarks of a quality player which, particularly for someone we got for nothing, is fairly exciting for me. Hopefully, he will keep his form up now throughout the year.
Tones Posted August 26, 2007 Posted August 26, 2007 I was amazed how easily people here wrote him off when we signed him. I knew he'd be good. I just knew it! I lost count of the number of times posters on here and other sites wrote him off. A lot were saying there is no way Rafa would have got him if he knew he had the inbestment coming, and suggested we should now sell him to buy whoever the flavour of the week was. Im glad Rafa showed thats not the case and im glad He playing well and proving very useful to the team.
realtarragona Posted August 26, 2007 Posted August 26, 2007 Looks a good player but made a couple of poor decisions yesterday. Nice goal though.

hideNseek Posted August 26, 2007 Posted August 26, 2007 He scored a goal and made another. What more do you want? Not forgetting that he (and Torres) never allowed their defence to relax for even a second during the whole game.
Guest Kaizer Posted August 26, 2007 Posted August 26, 2007 I cant remember last time our strikers created so much chances for themselves and each other, and this was the first time they played together, real promising and hopefully we will see this partnership a lot, pace, technique and vision combined is something we have not actually been blessed with the last couple of years in our attacking third.

But we won't see this partnership a lot, will we? It will be entirely different strike force on Tuesday and again next weekend against Derby.
AnfieldCop Posted August 26, 2007 Posted August 26, 2007 I am happy that we have got Voronin. He is a decent player, but first choice up front has to be, and will be, Kuyt/Torres. No doubt. Kuyt makes Torres better and the balance in the team is also better.
Guest Kaizer Posted August 26, 2007 Posted August 26, 2007 But we won't see this partnership a lot, will we? It will be entirely different strike force on Tuesday and again next weekend against Derby. It will only be speculation how much we will see them, but since Voronin and Torres are the two best footballers and they complement each other very well there are no reason why they wont be the preferred partnership pretty soon if something like that will exist.
realtarragona Posted August 26, 2007 Posted August 26, 2007 He scored a goal and made another. What more do you want? He made a couple of poor decisions, that's all. Unless you think he didn't.
Extraordinary Swindle Posted August 26, 2007 Posted August 26, 2007 He has scored 5 goals in about 44 internationals and has never had a prolific record. The reason his record is poor at international level is he mostly plays in midfield to accomodate the likes of Rebrov and Shevchenko.
hagi_complex Posted August 26, 2007 Posted August 26, 2007 Who gives a f*ck what his international strike rate is? If he's doing the business for us, that's all that matters.
Poolfrog Posted August 26, 2007 Posted August 26, 2007 I was amazed how easily people here wrote him off when we signed him. I knew he'd be good. I just knew it!You have to remember that the average age of the more irrational element on here appears to be about 17 and a half. Concomitant with that is a propensity for instant knee-jerk reactions. It's entirely logical therefore that they would write off a player before he kicks a ball for us. That kind of groundless analysis is all over the place on these forums
