It is pretty strange how sometimes it can only be described as the way football is. Our example of it was of course 2005 when after a poor enough run in the group stage we ended up in the precarious position of being out of the competition unless we scored 3 goals in the last 45 mins of that stage when we had only scored 2 goals in the previous 5 1/2 games (or something like that).

We all know how it went from there on, but if you look at that game then you'll see that gerrard should have been sent off but somehow the ref missed his studded kick on the olimpiakos player somehow. How close we came to not even qualifying for the first knockout stage , nevermind winning it. From there on things only got harder for us, drawn against the best sides in the competion and always being the under dog. Sure we beat Juve 2-1 at home, fantastic result with some lovely goals but then we had to go to Turin, a place where they had not failed to score in europe for some very large amount of games (I dont remember but if someone can post that then great, but it was a decent record that they had going there). Away game to Juve comes and we hold them to a draw.. does anyone remember cannavaro heading off the post? my god I was utterly s***ting myself... but sure enough we held out only to meet chelsea in the next round. 2 games, both very hard fought and full of nothing but pure tension and yet we pull through on an anfield win with lampard missing somethign that he would have scored in any other match.. I wont mention about the goal that wasnt as I believe it was a peno and a red card anyway(and it didnt corss the line, dont care what photoshop pics people show, it didnt). But lucky or not we progressed to the final where the most amazing of all things happened.. I dont need to spell that out for anyone who watches football, we were 2nd best but we had character.. 3-0 down and we came back. we won but for the life of me I just cant believe the double save... the rest sure enough was down to the players giving everything they had but the double save....

At every stage we were the under dogs... we were never expected to go through each round of the competition and yet we won it.

This year, how on earth did we ever think we had a chance against a team who began there season out of the champions league?

you gotta love football.

I fail to see your point...

Do you mean that we shouldn't have won it 2005, but should have now, and because we did then, haven't now??? Sorry, I don't get the logic in your reasoning.

the last 2 lines weren't exactly serious... since I dont actually believe in 'fate' I was just saying how its funny how football can be sometimes. dont take it too seriously.

Some people believe football is a matter of life and death, I am very disappointed with that attitude. I can assure you it is much, much more important than that."
