The Last King of Scotland

Saw a preview screening last night - Forest Whitaker is simply amazing as Idi Amin. Totally steals the show. Gotta be up for an Oscar.

 

Sadly, the film itself was a bit of a let down. Telling the two stories as it does (Amin's, and that of his Scottish doctor), it seems to lack focus and can't decide who the main character is.

 

That said, James McAvoy is very good as Dr Garrigan, and the film does an excellent job of showing what life was like around Amin. Whitaker is sublime, capturing the mood-swings and madness perfectly

 

Not a comfortable film to watch, but worth the money if you fancy seeing something a bit different
