My mum has got a dog its half yorkshire terrier and half westland terrier she's 5 ,she was in a bit of pain last week so we took her to the PDSA and said she had a bit of problem with her legs well thats what we thought so the vets walked her around the room and said she was fine on the tuesday ,then on friday her back legs give up completely .She's had an X-ray and theres nothign wrong with her spine ,its not broken like we assumed ,she's slipped a disc apparently .

Unfortuntely at the moment she is paralysed from the waist down from what we can make out and can't even feel her hind legs now or bladder / bowels. We asked them what exactly was wrong with her and they said they couldn't know unless they put some kind of dye in her to show a more detailed analysis on an X-ray ,something which the PDSA don't fund ,you only get operations and stuff like that done if you pay . We are all a bit heart broken at the moment ,I never thought I could get so attached to a animal before ,it always seemed alien to me the bond some people have with their animals.

anyway I rang up liverpool university the vet department and they said it would be 150 for consultation and a thousand or so for any operation ,thats not to mention any after care on top of that ,its not that unreasonable but I am stretched financially as it is and me mum is on a pension ,I'm busy thinking of getting some kind of loan out . we did take the dog to get put down today but couldn't go through with it. maybe we can get her a doggie wheelchair but how funny would she look in that

the moral of the story anyway is to GET BLOODY PET INSURANCE. I would recommend it for anyone ,don't try and save a few pennies only to be truly f***ed when it matters.

don't know if anyone has had a similar problem with their dogs ,would be interested to know.
