back in blighty following a trip to oz. don't think i've ever watched so many films in the course of a couple of weeks - all of them while on my flights. here are my thoughts.

fun with dick and jane - jim carrey acting up in gentle nuclear family satire. good fun. 6/10

da vinci code - like poking at a loose tooth, i couldn't help myself. not as infuriating as the book, but still beyond the limits of any suspension of disbelief. ian mckellen reinforces his reputation as the hammiest actor around. 6/10

thank you for smoking - clever satire on both industry spin and personal choice. very slick and engaging, a really good film. 6/10

an inconvenient truth - somewhat drawn-out polemic on global warming. a tad too distracted by painting al gore as a 'great guy', nevertheless his delivery of the facts is laudable. 6/10

the sentinel - michael douglas and kiefer sutherland play secret servicemen in the thick of a plot to kill the president. fairly standard political thriller fare. 6/10

the ringer - jackass johnny knoxville in farrelly brothers-produced comedy about a loser trying to rig the special olympics to save someone's fingers(!), whilst getting the pretty girl. syrupy, just shy of mainstream, but watchable. 6/10

the notorious bettie page - elegantly-filmed b&w biography of a 50s s&m model. gretchen moll plays a convincing lead as the home girl-turned-glamour model, while the story isn't terribly remarkable, the film captures the 'feel' of the time. 6/10

little fish - broody aussie flick of former junkie (cate blanchett - :swoon:) trying to get on her feet with her own business. quite well-acted, but the film tries too hard to be clever and quirky and ends up being dry and slow. disappointing. 6/10
