Joaquin pleads to leave Betis

Spain winger Joaquin has reiterated his desire to leave Real Betis and has pleaded with the Primera Liga club to listen to offers from other teams.

'I have spoken with (coach Javier) Irureta and told him that it is time for me to leave,' the 25-year-old was quoted as saying in sports daily AS on Thursday.

'I've achieved everything possible at Betis and now I want to continue my career at another club.'

Joaquin, who has won 42 caps for Spain and was part of the squad for the World Cup, graduated to the Betis first team from the reserves in 2000 when the club was in the second division and has been a leading member ever since.

Betis said last season that they had rejected a bid from Chelsea for the player. He has also been linked with moves to Real Madrid and Barcelona.

The winger, who is under contract to Betis until 2010, said Valencia were the latest team to express their interest.

'Valencia have offered 15 million euros ($19.28 million) for me plus (Uruguayan winger Mario) Regueiro,' he said. 'I understand that Betis want to set the price but they told me they would listen to offers and they haven't done that.'

Valencia bought Italian striker Francesco Tavano from Empoli on Wednesday for and remain keen to strengthen their squad.

Betis are also at loggerheads with Brazilian striker Ricardo Oliveira who has failed to return after a loan spell at Sao Paulo.

Oliveira is angry that Betis refused him permission to extend his loan deal in order to play in the second leg of the final of the Libertadores Cup and has not yet returned to Seville.

Surely he'll be available at a knockdown price from the drivel we were discussing when Chelsea were interested. We could probably get him for under 10m. Would you prefer to have him and JP battle it out for RM and push Stevie forward? I may prefer this option than getting Kuyt for 9m.

Don't need him now. I think he missed his chance.

Happy with what we have too.

To be honest, with the money Chelsea was throwing Betis's way at that time, there wasn't really a chance there.

EDIT: and everytime Rafa needs a goal, he pushes Stevie forward anyways. I don't see 9m for Kuyt being good business sense.

I think it is when Gerrard hasn't really shown that he can play as a second striker and that Kuyt is the sort of player that can help the team and score goals, whilst giving Crouch a break.

Kuyt will give everything, week in week out - and he's ours. If you don't think he's worth £9m you haven't seen much of him.

... is correct

I have to agree. ONe of his major strengths is coming onto the breaking ball, if he is forcing the breaking ball then effectively negates one of his major strengths. I will be the first to admit that i know feck all about Kuyt bar what i have seen on downloads but I would much prefr to have SG in his best role and A.N Other up front.
