I don't think he got pushed about but he certainly had his moments trying to adjust to the physical nature of our league, and found a way by using his intelligence moreso than any real aggression. I think Snieder is a similar player but I agree that he's probably not as tough mentally as Xabi.

Have to disagree. He's big hearted but his defensive strengths were his positioning and timing in the tackle.

You could say the same about Xabi though, who isn't the most mobile or physical of players, and he adusted. The game has changed anyway and players are more protected than ever these days, even in England.

Just shows what a joke that club is when they can't make better use of class players like Snieder, who are ideally suited to La Liga.

Yep, he's a cracking all round player. There's a few rumours that Rafa is after a more adventurous midfield, which could tie in with the likes of Aqualini, who isn't really a holding midfielder either, so maybe Snieder could work. But I doubt they'd let him go on the cheap with plenty of other big clubs sniffing around.

There's doubts about his mentality though. Ability is one thing but we want players to come here hungry for success.

He's at his best as the more attacking of the midfield 3, IMO. Similar to Gerrard and Lampard. I think he could play a more deeper controlled role alongside Masch as he certainly has the vision and technique. I've also seen him coming off the left for the Dutch.

Unbelivable isn't it. Something is going on mind, but if we'd have got as far as agreeing terms I think we'd have heard more about if from our end.

Depends how desperate they are and if Huntelaar fancies it and forces it through.

The Aqua man stuff is all over the Italian press, most saying we've agreed personal terms but not a fee, which I didn't think was possible. They are notoriously full of s*** mind.

Regardless, he's not getting any younger and these injuries will have taken their toll. I'd rather go for the less risky option, who we can always offload if it doesn't work out. If they give us 30 million and RVN, then I might reconsider.

Younger and not suffering from chronic inury problems. If we got Huntelaar our forward line would be sorted for a good few years. He's a class finisher, just wasted by that circus.

Don't think it matters. Those should be our terms. If they're desperate to sign Alonso and also offload their fringe players, it's a good deal. Alonso should look at players like Huntelaar and realise how quickly things change at that circus. It would be a shame if he's offloaded next summer to an inferior club.

I've no idea what we'll do. Valenica will want big money for Silva regardless of their financial woes, which should swallow up most, if not all, of the Alonso fee. We still then need a replacment for Alonso, a good versatile defender, which should be covered by the Arbeloa and Dossena sales, and a decent striker if there's any left over.

Interesting stuff. Riera started 24, was subbed off 20 times, came on 4 times and had almost identical playing time to Benayoun overall.

Yes it is. Whether starting or coming on as sub, he's given a pre determined period of time to make an impact on the game. It's a big part of Rafa's philosophy for certain positions and players. I'd like to see the numbers for how many games Riera has played the full 90. I can think of quite a few he's come on and had an impact on.
