think the closest we came to cracking it, although in a slightly different way, was when anelka, heskey and owen played in a three the year we finished second. looked awesome for a while that.

i agree about the movement. it's been a problem for a long while. we've rarely attacked with the fluidity and one touch passing of the best teams in recent years. my answer would be to concentrate on getting ourselves some wide players for the time being and see how the current crop of strikers do then. if no improvement, then think about moving them on.

wouldn't you say that was far more to do with lack of chances created then hundreds of glaring misses though wayne? i'd like to see a team that carves out chances all over the place and doesn't neccessarily rely on one goal scorer to win us games, although that would be nice too.

because they are all the same kind of player? easy to throw around a term with a negative connotation like "target man" to suit an argument. but moro, crouch, cisse, pongolle, kewell and garcia all offer something completely different. less about long balls to a big man then having a player with the touch and presence to bring his team mates into play.

rafa benitez wanted peter crouch. identified the player went out and spent £7million on him when most rated him at half that price. graeme souness wants michael owen. michael owen is bending over backwards to make a move to liverpool happen. at what particular stage of this episode has rafa benitez enquired about owen's availability? if he were happy to sit on real's bench and take top dollar or visa versa, would we be sniffing around trying to buy the player? he can see the benefits of michael owen signing for the club, but only on his terms; low wage, low fee and perhaps with cisse farmed out as well. hardly the actions of a man that bothered by the signing either way. in that context want seems a little strong.
