Reading this earlier on http://www.chatsoccer.eu/ - story has since been removed so dunno what means Liverpool crisis deepens as owner Gilett opens up Friday, 18 January 2008 The crisis at Liverpool football club deepened this week as co-owner George Gillett revealed the level of his unhappiness to a chatsoccer source. The billionaire businessman called up a chatsoccer contributor and Republic of Ireland fanatic at his home and proceeded to take aim at his coaching staff, players and even his co-owner Tom Hicks and let fly with both barrels in an exceptionally open and frank conversation. The ongoing problems in his personal relationship with head coach Rafa Benitez were highlighted; though Gillett believes Benitez to be a "genius", he finds him very difficult to deal with on a personal level. Gillett was unhappy about how Benitez approached former Manchester United defender Gabriel Heinze with a view to signing him, and feared that the club could face serious sanctions because of the manager's actions. The owner is also concerned that the levels of athleticism in his players have dropped since the departure of reeerve team coach Paco Herrera to Espanyol. Gillett is also not prepared to play second fiddle to anyone at the club, and he hinted that those with what he perceived to be a higher profile than him would be moved on- this apparently includes both certain named players and members of the coaching staff. He is also concerned about the amount of Liverpool's dirty laundry being aired in public, something for which he accuses his co-owner Tom Hicks of encouraging due to his openness with the press- Gillett would prefer a much more private and discreet approach.
