Read an article in this months 442 magazine, it was an interview with Dutch ex-forest player Bryan Roy, about his new business in making miniature models of top flight footballers. One of the things he mentioned in the interview was how Granada had "bought" Liverpool's image rights (aswell as Arsenal's).

Does anyone have anymore details of what exactly this entails in terms of rights and the financial aspects of this deal?

Nothing of Interest really.

If you haven't noticed, the OFFCIAL club highlights all come from the ITV commentary of the game

I do remember them buying shares in the club... between 5 and 10%. Can't tell you if they are still holding onto them.

you'd think ITv would show us a bit more then wouldn't you.

Sky certainly protected their investment with united by showing them all the feckin' time and showing that 100 greatest utd goals sh*t every 5 minutes

Well the just of the interview with Roy was that he makes models of each player and he was saying how he had trouble getting permission to make models of the liverpool players because Granada had bought our image rights, so presumeably, if this is right, Granada get a share of individual players merchandising revenue?

I think Granada and LFC set up a company to manage our image rights, website, that club channel yoke etc lfc.tv, from what I remember both parties own an equal share of this third company.

Is about right. Players can strike deals for individual image rights in their own name and capacity, so long as it does not portray them as Liverpool FC players by location, action or identifying kit/related images. Rights for images of Liverpool players or any others as England players are held by the FA.
