Sky+ Question

I have a Sky+ box but it only records 40 hours of programmes, so if I record a full series of something like '24' then it's virtually full, plus I have things on there like the Champions league final that I never want to get rid of, so as a result it's nearly always full. If I buy a DVD recorder too is it fairly easy to transfer stuff from the Sky+ box onto a DVD? What else would I need to be able to do that? ie leads between the two etc. Thanks.
