Hairspray 2007 with John Travolta

My 7 year old niece wants this for Christmas, kind of off the back of high school musical 2 and all that. Is it something that is suitable for a young kid or is it unavoidabley s*** in any instance.

 

Anyone recommend any decent dvds she may like, of musical ilk, as a replacement?
