Thirty-six people have been arrested after a series of dawn raids by police in Merseyside.

About 300 officers took part in the operation which targeted 40 homes in the Knowsley area.

It was the result of more than 18 months of intensive investigation and information from people in the local community, police said.

Property valued at more than £300,000 including satellite navigation kits, stolen TVs and cars was recovered.

Those arrested are held on drugs, burglary and theft offences.

The force said it was the first of a series of operations of its kind in the area.
