Hope some of you managed to tune into ITV 4 yesterday - there was the greatest CL finals ever, the greatest CL goals and finally all of Liverpools CL victories

Some points of note: Of the greatest goals ever that I saw there were 2 from Gerrard Olympiakos (2004)and the header vs Milan(2005) one from Peter Crouch (cycle kick very reminescent of the Van Basten Cycle Kick ! ) Three goals however stood out for me ( emotional and aesthetic reasons I guess )

1 Kaka's pass for the Campo(?) goal vs us in the 2005 final - Sublime - you can bet even our Alonso and Gerrard dream of passes like that (and given the right players; they can)

2 Mark Overmars goal for Barcelona against us --- perfect example of keeping the ball and sucking the opposition in I've ever seen - Barca kept the ball for what seemed like 5-10 mins; pinging it about at pace and not looking dangerous at all, finally the sucked the Hyppia and Henchoz CH pairing up the field (Barca literally moved their minds upfield! ) - then played the perfect ball for Overmars behind it. trust me this was class like you rarely see and the whole team contributed -- Man I hope a liverpool team learns how to do that !

Finally; and this one had me asking the question : " what do we really know of Rafa's playing style?"

Aimar vs Liverpool:

If you've ever watched Man Utd at their best, they have a brand of football that can be seen as cavalier almost french, quick on touch football all out attack - it's a good brand to have when trying to market soccer to the world ( take this years Man u vs Roma for example).

In contrast when Rafa was mentioned as the manager for Liverpool every talked about what a defensive coach he is, indeed so far everything has said that Rafa is all about negating the potency of the opposition, unlike Man U, Rafa would seem to want to nullify and look for a set piece or penalty to win the game .... maybe not !

Look at Aimars goal again, fast intelligent interplay Valencia literally used guile to move defenders to where they wanted them out of position ( exceptionally well drilled defenders too!!) ; they out thought them at pace, and played the ball into Aimar who seemed to almost walk the ball into the net.

Now I know I'm talking to football coniscenti on this site but I encourage you to look at the Aimar goal again, and again and again A Rafa team wont just defend and look to negate the opposition, it will employ a variety of methods to dissect (note the word ) the opposition; a Rafa team will be able to move the minds of defenders, ie hold onto the ball so well that players get sucked out of position, a Rafa team will have guile to almost walk in the shadows between players and score

You could see the start of this in Athens, we could nullify the opposition but lacked the guile or the surgical instruments to start the dissection

our team needs pace, guile and movement ( we need players like Tevez)
