Had the thrill of shaking hands with one of the all time greats last night outside the ground.

Franz Beckenbauer

Very patient with all the autograph hunters and like all legends had a bit of an aura about him.

Disapointed to notice that a few of our genuine legends - Phil Neal, Alan Kennedy and Ian Callaghan were able to walk along the main stand carpark and in thru the VIP entrance without a lot of recognition. Don't think a lot of the daytrippers and corporate freeloaders even knew who they were.

I saw Didi some time later near the ground and we exchanged thumbs up signs.:thumbs:

He kept going though, as I shrieked Diddiiiiiiii.

And I touched Pennants hand in a hand shake attempt as he was queueing up to go into that club.

Yeah I saw Didi as well. Walked in along the Anfield Road and stopped near the Hillsborough Memorial to sign autographs and get some photos taken. Got ambushed by a TV crew then for an interview.

Very accomodating though

He's a great lad, Didi - his scouse accent is really coming on nicely. I saw Spoony with Aldo ouside the centenary - they were pretty much unmolested too..it's not neglect, its familiarity - lots of people shouting 'Allright Aldo!' etc and smiles all round.

yeah I acknowledge that the regular matchgoers and locals would be blase about seeing former players but what irked me was that there were a lot of people who clearly didn't even recognise the people I mentioned.

The amount of ignorant corporate daytrippers at the game last night bugged me.

I was lucky enough to get a seat in the Kop. There was a girl behind me who was too lazy to stand up so she sat in her seat for the whole game sending texts.

A Scandanavian guy beside me didn't understand the concept of extra time or away goals and had to have it explained to him.

Suppose one of the benefits of a much bigger stadium is that we can accomodate these people while still letting proper fans get a piece of the action

It was nice to see his genuine relief and joy after the match.

Well, if you are a Liverpool fan ... :hmm:

;)
