As is the norm with Spanish games the remaining minutes will be played out on another occasion....Why don't they just throw the offending team out?? It doesn't seem to matter to Spanish fans what they get up to at games whether it's racist chanting or throwing coins at linesmen.. The punishments are almost non-existent they're so lenient

Sevilla coach struck by missile Ramos was unconscious as he was stretchered from the pitchThe Copa del Rey tie between Real Betis and Sevilla was abandoned after Sevilla coach Juande Ramos was knocked out by an object thrown from the crowd.

The incident happened after Sevilla's Freddie Kanoute scored in Wednesday's quarter-final second leg match.

The Sevilla players left the pitch, causing the game to be halted, while Ramos reportedly regained consciousness after being treated by medical staff.

The first leg, which had been played at Sevilla's stadium, had finished 0-0.

The normal procedure in Spain when matches are called off is for the remaining minutes to be played at a later date.

The build-up to the Seville derby was dominated by arguments between the two clubs over whether or not Sevilla president Jose Maria del Nido would be allowed in the VIP box at the Betis stadium.

After mediation by the Andalucian regional government, Betis finally allowed Del Nido to attend the match although a number of fans threw objects at him as he took his seat.

There was further controversy because Betis had placed a bronze bust of Del Nido's arch-rival, Betis owner Manuel Ruiz de Lopera in a seat just behind the Sevilla president.

Last season's cup quarter-final second leg between Valencia and Deportivo Coruna was abandoned after a linesman was cut on the head by a coin thrown from the crowd. The remaining 46 minutes were played behind closed doors one week later.

1.5 litre water bottle hit him on the back of his neck - could've killed him

Some radio stations are saying it was full of iced water.

The animal that did this should be banned for life from any stadium.

They were throwing bottles before Sevilla CF scored - this one hit Juande whilst the rest of the bench were celebrating Kanoute's goal.

I almost started a thread earlier saying I think it might go off tonight. The press and radio have been winding this one up since the draw was made. The two clubs have been at it as well. Del Nido's refusal to accept the Betis centenary statue that they've been presenting to all visiting presidents this season was childish. As was his decision to refuse to have his picture taken before a bust of Lopera.

Betis' then decision to announce those facts to their supporters as the game kicked off was even more stupid.

The press have lapped all that up and been making as much mileage as possible out of it all.

The fact that Betis placed the bust of Lopera beside Del Nido tonight would've been funny if it wasn't so obviously designed to whip the fans up. Figaro will correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think there were any Sevilla fans there tonight as the police couldn't guarantee their safety. In the recent league game they weren't admitted into the stadium until twenty minutes after kick off.

The irony is that Lopera doesn't go to the games because he's still sulking after the fans booed him last season.

No sevilla fans - I saw the game in my club with quite a few who would have gone if they could have been able to.

Del Nido was hit by a coin as he took his seat.

When Sevilla arrived they refused to let the club's Sporting Director Monchi into the stadium because he didn't have his entrance card - the Betis delegates said they didn't know who he was.

They are like big kids.

The statue thing just took attention away from the fact that both clubs have very violent Ultra fans - and bottle throwing has always been very very common in Benito Villamarin

That says it all really. A s*** night for the city. I think both clubs have to shoulder some of the blame and I hope the police catch the f***** who threw the bottle. They should stop people taking anything into those games and not serve refreshments, though they'd just throw coins instead.

I know tonoghts games was a cup game but La Liga is losing a bit of it's gloss and in danger of losing ground on the Premiership similar to their Serie A counterparts.

I've heard numerous opinions about the poor quality of La Liga this year but having only seen a small handful of games I can't comment. I would still happily watch a La Liga game but the soap operas that go along with the games are getting tiresome.

At least it's a tighter battle than the Prem. War more like it!

What makes this a joke is you just know UEFA, Blatter etc al would be crawling all over this if it happened in the UK.

What has hapened this year in Spain and Italy is going too far. The national associations have to do something, or be forced to do something.

it'll not lose ground football wise to the Prem, there is no comaprison, La Liga is miles better to watch. It's a bit unfair to lump it in with Serie A. Thats lost ground cos a) it's so corrupt and b) it's the most tediously dull of the big leagues.

The fans on the other hand.... nutters.
