bringing JC on for Garcia with 15 mins left - a Centre Half for a Striker / Winger in a knock-out game you are losing 5-2 at home when you have your leading goalscorer on the bench and don't bring him on at all!

I've asked this already in a couple of threads but I'd love to know how that substituion (and the lack of them on Sat) was meant to win us the game - a Qtr Final Cup Tie @ Home!!!!

I'll answer it.

Rafa does not have a clue.

Oh aye, that's it then.

Absolute b******s. He's played kids throughout the league cup the whole way. We lost, we're out, Dudek was shyte, Arsenal smelled blood, get the f*** over it people. We didn't lose to Burnley.

he was looking to shore up the defence? that did not work.

he was hoping to save a striker from getting hurt before our next game?

maybe.

Carragher drew the short straw? most likely!!

Seriously, does the thought of Carra coming on and going to 3 CBs at the back and pushing Peltier and Aurelio forward - which is what happened - not occur to anyone on here? FFS, and you people call Rafa clueless.

at this stage, all reasonable thoughts have gone out the window.

:D

At least you're honest about why you're angry, the Others are all trying to justify why Rafa is "clueless".

don't get me wrong, i am not angry. i was baffled by the team selection and concerned about a "gentlemans agreement" not to play a a team of regulars.

i am angry at the response by some on here, especially those looking at a defeat in "life and death" terms.

And comparing it to 1989, disgusting.

I don't know about the "gentleman's agreement" either, until I hear it from Rafa.

Good call JS, i thought we were much more attacking when Carra came on, went to a 3 - 5 - 2, was very obvious wat Rafas thoughts were.

I really didn't think it was that bad, dont get me wrong, it was bad, but not nearly bad enough for some people's disgraceful reactions on here.

Rafa took a gamble, got it wrong. Lost in the league cup to Arsenal due to the inexperience of a couple of young defenders and a s***house keeper, not something to get so worked up about. The side that was put on the park should have won the game, they didn't, now lets look to take out all our frustration on Watford.

Kev's guide to management:

(1) Always play your most talented players. They will always win

(2) If you need to replace a player, replace him with someone who plays in the same position. Otherwise, don't replace them.

(3) Never play anyone that might not put in a great performance

(4) Always do what the fans want

(5) Tell the fans who you intend to play so that they can tell you what they think before the match starts so (i) they can decide whether to turn up and (ii) so they can decide who should really play and let you know well in advance so you don't ever lose. The fans know more than you.

Add as you will.

Because we were never going to win by then.

You need not thank me.

I thought the Carra thing was probably down to Crouch not having taht much impact on Saturday and Carra having a bit more muscle, it was teh sort of daft move that might just have made eth opposition think a bit and put them on eth back foot a little. Let's face it, Crouch was in Toure's pocket whenever he got near the box through the vast majority of Saturday's game.

As s*** as it may sound from the fans point you, the team put out by Rafa obviously shows a slight dis-interest in the League Cup I KNOW the fans paid alot of money...

But get real this is the Carling Cup...

I think Rafa got it right last night. This is the Carling Cup. Qualifying for the Champions League is now our priority along with staying in the CL as long as possible... and who knows what could happen there.

Last night sent out a message to the board... back me so that I can build a squad full of youth... just like the a***. A team of youth that we can groom for the future. Help me acquire players like Denilson and Walcott, because in the long run it will save you money.

We should have done alot better, but a very strong message has been made... On Saturday we learned what top forwards can do for your team (Arsenal by the way reminded me of Houllier's LFC with a little more skill, constantly sending long balls for forwards with pace to run on to), and we also learned that we need at least one world class forward. Last night reminded us that we also need to start investing seriously in youth.

I still believe in Rafa and his priorities are in my mind correct.
