When listening to the radio recently I couldn;t help but observe during a scum match with sheff utd how the commentator was referring to them pushing their full backs on at every opportunity...it suddenyl struck me how ours don't really do that - are they not being given licence to go out and help win a game. I know there is (justified) criticism on our wide men but the game is all about combinations and criticism should be directed at our wide play, rather than simply being addressed to wingers. If the full backs offer little then all any team has to do is double up on the wide specialists and unless they are Jonny Barnes of 87-89 fame (which they ain't....someone please invest a time machine!!) it just ain't gonna happen.

Is it alack of ambition or a lack of quality (or indeed both) I seem to remember Paisley once commenting on the reason for our success and he said it was all about the players...I think Fergiescum understands this...heard an interview with Rooney recently and he commented how the manager wants him to go out and play his natural game...

Don't mean to have used Utd twice in this post to illustrate our failings, but it also serves to remind me how despite always believing that we have overtaken them a combination of good honest management and attacking football has once again elevated them domestically to levels that we can only dream of....

In a couple of games recently, we were pushing Riise really far upfield and he was putting cross after cross into the box.
