My new mate, always knocking about and can't get rid

only it's a fecking cat!

I love animals and my next door but one neighbour recently bought a cat and it's always hung around in my garden. No problem to me, it's kinda cute watching it trying to catch the bats that fly around outside. Recently though it seems to have the idea that I'm it's best mate and started doing that 'rub against leg, tail raised' thing.

Not only that but these past few nights I can't open a door without it running into my house and the little bugger won't leave without a careful strategy of closing doors and me guiding it out and pre-empting it running away. Tonight I spent 20 minutes waiting for it to get bored and feck off after I went to get a CD from the car. In the end I had to frighten it away, which I don't like doing, not least because I hate scaring animals or freaking them out.

It's a cute cat but I don't like the idea of going to work or going away and this poor fecker starving to death as it had bolted in without me looking.

So, genny, I guess the question is... How do you let a cat down gently?
