Do we need a better sponsorship deal?

I was reading the latest issue of World Soccer, not usually a mag for churning out b*lls***, and according to them we get annually £5M from Carlsberg, compared to £14M that ManUre get from AIG. Smaller clubs like Arsenal, Lyon, Bayer Leverkusen, Tottenham and Schalke all have more lucarative deals than us. Okay the consumer market in Germany and France is bigger than the UK hence why their clubs can expect bigger sponsorship deals, but we are one of the biggest clubs in the world, surely we can do a lot better? How can ManUre be raking in so much more than us annually from their shirt sponsor? IMO we are underselling ourselves and can find a sponsor that can pay us a lot more.

Just wait until Rushian comes along, and tears that to pieces.

I hope so, I'm just reading this from a mag, I'd be happy for the info to be proven incorrect and find the club earning a lot more than the stated amount.

This has been discussed before. They have all got better deals because their deals are more recent. When we renegotiate our next deal we will be talking a lot more than 5 million.

The Mancs, Arsenal, Chelsea and Spurs have all started new deals (of varying lengths) this summer which has seen the value of sponsorship rise by 50-100% on previous deals. Basically a seasmic shift in the market.

Our current deal ends summer 2007 so our next deal will be negotiated based on these new benchmark values. We're just a year out of phase really.

Let's hope so. Carlsberg would need to effectively double what they currently pay the club if we are to match some of the top sponsorship deals awarded to lesser clubs.
