Woman and three children murdered

Neighbours contacted police after flies were seen around the house

A murder investigation is under way after a woman and three children were found dead in a house.

Officers were called to the home in Cheadle Hulme, Greater Manchester, on Sunday night, after neighbours raised concerns about the occupants' welfare.

Greater Manchester Police said they had to break into the house, adding that the bodies had been in the property for "some time".

The woman and children are believed to be Asian and from the same family.

Police are waiting for the results of post-mortem examinations.

Neighbours at Turves Road told BBC Radio Manchester that they contacted police when they saw flies around the house.

A spokeswoman for Greater Manchester Police said: "A murder investigation has been launched after four bodies were discovered in Cheadle Hulme.

"Police were called to the address and officers attended and forced entry

Scenes of crime officers are gathering evidence at the house

"They discovered four bodies, believed to be a woman and three children.

"It is believed the bodies may have been there for some time."

A council worker, who lives locally, said a white taxi cab was towed away from a car park at the back of the property shortly after police arrived at the house.

Locals said the children living at the four-bedroom end-of-terrace house were thought to be of primary school age.

The property is cordoned off with police tape as scenes of crime officers carry out a search of the property.

Winifred Lomax, 74, a retired shop worker who lives across the road, said: "They had not been seen for a few weeks and someone looked through their letterbox and there was a nasty smell."

Turves Road is a main road with a mix of semi-detached and detached houses and some shops.
