I have just watched a programme about Heysel, it was on late one night during the World Cup. It was very interesting and jogged my memory (I was 16 at the time), as to how it was a whole catalogue of events that caused the problems, and only a small part of it was down to Liverpool Fans.

The programme had Brucie and the LFC chief bodyguard of the time in it, as well as the guy who served a few years for manslaughter going back to the ground, I can't remember his name, but he is now a lifeguard.

A lot of Italians were interviewed (who went to the 'game')and they didn't seem to hold Liverpool fans guilty either.

This was probably on TV in England years ago, but if not and if anyone would like a copy I can burn one and send it over. Also for any Aussies who missed it I can help out.

Cheers

Heysel was an event of its time, wasn't it.

"Trouble" followed football both domestically and internationally and the authorities did not know how to protect the innocent and punish the guilty, at best not controlling the problem, at worst exacerbating it. and you get a decision to hold the match in a relic of a stadium.

yes, the club has to take its share of responsibility, but we struggle to see how that trouble was any worse than what was going on elsewhere. the deaths were primarily due to disaster rather than direct violence. heysel, hillsborough, bradford etc showed how sick and neglected the game had become, domestically how thatcher's approach failed, and how the game needed and warranted some sensible thinking about how to make it safer. it must be said, we have come a long way in a short space of time.

the worst change in that period, even though it half-benefits us, is that the distribution of money has become too unequal, thus making competitions too predictable. when will we next see ipswich, aston villa, nottingham forest, norwich, everton etc all vying for top honours

The distribution of tickets by UEFA for that game didn't help either, did it? Taking away some of our allocation and giving them to Juve.

The trouble was in a 'neutral' area. that was crumbling and became mixed with Reds and Juve fans.
