do your talking on the pitch says fat boy
liverbird04 replied to liverbird04's topic in General Football Discussion
maybe a lot by our standards but certainly not more than chelsea normally do ,but becos it was a bit out of character it seemed to get latched onto . -
lampard hating thread got to have one. IT SAYS much about Liverpool?s emergence as the biggest threat to Chelsea that there is a growing amount of bad blood between the teams. Their Barclays Premiership meeting at Stamford Bridge tomorrow will bristle with bile. When such an affable individual as Frank Lampard feels put out, it is clear that things have got out of hand. The midfield player is still annoyed by the taunts that preceded the corresponding fixture at Anfield in last October, with Jamie Carragher, his England team-mate, labelling Chelsea as a long-ball team, and he believes such criticisms were out of order. On that occasion Chelsea silenced a baying crowd with a stunning 4-1 victory and Lampard has told tomorrow?s opponents to do their talking on the pitch. ?I wouldn?t say they got under our skin, but there were things that were said before the last game,? he said. ?We felt we had been talked about in a bad way and we put it right in that game, which is the main place to do your talking. Put things right there. ?The only thing that surprises is when players talk badly about other teams. I understand the right for fans and press to say things critical, but I don?t think players should criticise teams who have been successful and who are doing things the right way.? Lampard seems to forget that, in playground parlance, José Mourinho started it, by criticising Liverpool?s football and almost refusing to recognise their Champions League triumph, but nevertheless Rafael Benítez seems to share the view that he and his players said a little too much in the build-up to their last meeting. The Liverpool manager made the uncharacteristic error of claiming that Chelsea were ?afraid? of his team; this time he has retreated behind familiar platitudes while discouraging his players from discussing the opposition. Perhaps they have realised that there is nothing to be gained in trying to rile Chelsea, who as well as having a world-class squad, are developing a siege mentality under Mourinho. The Portuguese appears to thrive on confrontation, even squabbling with the likeable Benítez after their two Champions League encounters earlier this season, but his players also buy in to the us-against-the world psychology http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,428-2024167,00.html http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,428-2024053,00.html the times comparsion of gerrard and lampard .

don't know where to ask this question ,just wondering if anyone knows what percentage liverpool spend on wages in relation to our income ?someone told me that we were " paying out about 70% of your income on wages according to the last Deloitte survey" thats seems remarkably high and dangerous ,I know there is a recommended level but I forget what it was ,someone must know ? I am just curious really. just that we have sold players like owen ,baros and got others off the wage bill like smicer and biscan. It did seem at one point like we had about 8 million set aside for either owen or a right winger ,the money situation just seems shrouded in mystery at the moment .

the cisse deal looks bizarre now ,14 million quid a club record signing for a player who arrived when the manager got sacked who sopent so much time pursuing him. Surely if the board were starting to have doubts about ged giving him 14 million quid after the 20 million he blew on other s*** french players like cheyrou, diao was not a good idea by anyones standards.

"The revenue looks to be down to £81m. The costs look to be up to £98m. The payroll will be roughly £48m. The target of having wages at 50% or less of the turnover will be failed again. The figure looks likely to be over 59% with no managerial change and to over 62% if there was a change of manager. The business would make a loss of £17m. This would reduce the net assets of the business to around £11m, and make the shares worth less than a penny each. If the dividend for 05/06 is paid in cash, and is the same size as the previous 5 years then the assets of the business would be around £7m. (note that in 2000 the club lost £15m and the major shareholders still demanded share dividends costing £3.8m) It is likely that these sizes of losses will also drain the cash the club have in the bank, almost to zero. At this point the club is close to insolvency. According to the nufc.com web site Emre, Boumsong, Dyer, Owen, Faye, Milner, Parker, Luque, Ameobi, Taylor, and Babayaro all have contracts with the club that extend to at least the end of the 2008-09 season. This is fine for a side playing in the Champions League, or at least the Uefa Cup, and bringing in more money all the time, not so for a club with no money, and a dwindling income. If season ticket sales look poor for next season expect that the club may have to sell of a large number of the players on long-term contracts." don't know what it all means but it doesn't sound good to me.sounds like leeds united . http://www.nufc-finances.org.uk/future.htm

I am sick of hearing how walcott wants to choose arsenal over liverpool becos of their track recored with youngsters ,what about ours? he just needs to take a look at the way steven gerrard is playing and improving under benitez to see that his talent will do just fine here. -

Banquet for a king of the Kop Jan 16 2006 Exclusive By Adrian Butler Daily Post Correspondent EVEN by the standards of someone who can score a goal from his own half, it was a special occasion. Liverpool FC player Xabi Alonso received a surprise gift from his home region at the weekend - a banquet cooked by one of the world's top chefs. Fresh from Liverpool FC's Anfield victory over Tottenham, the star Spanish footballer was amazed to see triple-Michelin-starred chef Martin Berasategui in England. After weeks of secret planning, Berasategui and his assistants had been flown over from San Sebastian, along with a dozen of Alonso's friends, by the Basque government. He cooked the nine-course meal at The London Carriage Works on Liverpool's Hope Street as a gesture of thanks from Alonso's home region. Alonso had appeared for free in a tourist board commercial for the Basque region, where he is a major household name. Martin Berasategui's restaurant, in San Sebastian, has had the maximum three Michelin stars for the past few years. It serves signature dishes like coconut ravioli, served with ginger ice cream and iced apple juice. The celebrated chef had brought a hamper of Basque ingredients, including six pigeons, to use in the recipes. He split the meal with the Carriage Works's chef patron, Paul Askew, and the pair spent the day cooking together. Mr Askew said: "It's been an honour for me and the staff to work with Martin. Although he doesn't speak any English, it's odd how we've understood each other all day while we've been working. I suppose it's like footballers who may not speak the same language understanding one another on the pitch." Meanwhile, Alonso's friends spent the morning shopping for Liverpool FC memorabilia before watching him in action in the 1-0 Premiership victory. Then the group arrived soon after 9pm from the Philharmonic Dining Rooms and sat on the restaurant's top table. Alonso led applause for the two chefs at the end of the meal, thanking Paul Askew via his translator. A spokeswoman for the Carriage Works said: "Everyone in the kitchen had been excited about this for days. Xabi is a real foodie and is a regular customer at the restaurant, so we were delighted to do this for him." The menu for a meal to remember Pan-fried red mullet with chorizo, gambas and celeriac puree Fish soup with bass and clams Ink-stuffed squid Cod tako in vizcaina sauce King scallop and black pudding with puy lentil jus and salmon caviar Beef tenderloin with a potato, iberica belly pork and cheese wool terrine Pigeon with a red wine sauce Pumpkin creme brulee with white chocolate ice cream Selection of deserts, including quince souffle, apple tatin, praline fondant, lemon yoghurt parfait with raspberry tuilles and modernisation of tiramisu Wines: Laurent Perrier Ultra Brut NV Oremus "Mandolas" Tokaji Furmint 2002 Evento Rioja 2001 Roar of applause for the chefs FROM a few tables away, I was able to eat the same meal as Xabi Alonso - and it was truly humbling. The best dishes by two top chefs in a special, one-off banquet was always going to be a one-off feast. Carriage Works chef Paul Askew has been acclaimed for cooking fish and seafood. But on Saturday night, he was matched with a giant of Basque cookery, with its famous salt cod and clams. Course number three, ink-stuffed squid, came out of the kitchen glistening and jet black. The squid collapsed on the fork into a sauce that was rich with caramelised onions. Then came a rare fillet steak sitting on Spanish cured pork and fois gras which may have been even better. Or maybe the highlight was the top-quality Basque pigeon in a creamy red wine sauce. People from around the world plan their holidays around eating at Martin Berasategui's restaurant in San Sebastian. To have him in Britain is like seeing Real Madrid star Raul brought on as a ringer at Anfield. I went into the kitchen to see the two men "plating up" the food, with everyone around watching in rapt silence. When the chefs came to Alonso's table to ask if the food was all right, you could hear the roar of applause halfway down Hope Street. http://icliverpool.icnetwork.co.uk/0100new...-name_page.html

chelsea bid for simao and play monopoly game
liverbird04 replied to liverbird04's topic in Liverpool FC
well mourinho obviously has great contacts within portugal ,obviously got a message to benfica even if its not an 'official' approach that whatever liverpool bid chelsea will more than match , so if liverpool bid =so do chelsea if liverpool don't= chelsea don't what chelsea have done is convince benfica that they will get massive money for simao ,so they will keep him till the summer ,ironically enough if liverpool don't want him neither will chelsea probably and then they won't get the big money they thought they would get in the first place. that is unless chelsea's interest is genuine ,who knows? lucky for us that liverpool seem to have switched their attentions elsewhere even before chelsea got interested.
