There`s certainly differences in how Wenger and Rafa approaches the game (and I must admit to being a fan of Wenger`s approach, but there`s not many like him actually succeeding in world football), but as you say: Some of Rafa`s purchases indicates that he wants to play a different brand of football. Remember that some of the players lacking in skill are not bought by Rafa (not replaces due to different factors) and that most players bought after he received substantial financial backing are actually to new to be judged here. I think that when the injured players returns (and hopefully stays fit) and the new players have bedded in, we will see the real "rafa`s Liverpool". A team where players like Aurelio, Agger, Alonso, Babel, Benayon and Torres will make sure the technical level is good enough. I just hope that stupid critizism from "expert" former players and pundits won`t make him leave us before he gets that far....
