Interesting article on nuclear testing/cold war

I'm amazed at the frequency and numbers of weapons that were actually tested. Also curious about the replies at the bottom of the page claiming the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombs were against the wishes of the military top brass and just a show of strength aimed at the Russians.

 

Any of our war correspondents confirm this?
