Soccer Saturday Expert Reaction

 

If Derby County had any outstanding questions about how hard life in the Premier League is going to be, they were answered emphatically at Anfield on Saturday.

 

Liverpool hit the newly promoted Rams for six of the best, with Fernando Torres and Xabi Alonso both scoring twice and new boys Ryan Babel and Andrei Voronin also getting in on the action in a 6-0 rout.

 

Matt Le Tissier watched the match for Soccer Saturday and he feet was watching the strongest Liverpool side he has seen in a long time.

 

"They were very impressive today.," said Le Tiss. "This is the most impressive Liverpool side I have seen for many a time.

 

"Even the lads that they have on the bench and come on, the strength in depth is like I have never seen before at Liverpool.

 

"Peter Crouch can't even get on the bench, there was no Steven Gerrard, no Jamie Carragher and still six goals.

 

"Derby are not the strongest team in the division by any stretch of the imagination. In fact they only had two chances in the whole game and both of those were when it was 6-0.

 

"But I am not going to take anything away from Liverpool because they passed the ball around brilliantly. They were excellent in the first-half and Torres is going to be an absolute superstar at Anfield.

 

"Xabi Alonso ran things in the middle of the park and there really wasn't a weakness in the Liverpool team at all."
