Gladiator sequel

I've been reading that both Ridley Scott and Russell Crowe want to make a sequel to Gladiator. Apparently about what happens to Maximus in the afterlife. I thought Gladiator was an outstanding film but I'm not sure about taking a drama/action movie and making a sort of sci-fi sequel.

 

I have to admit though, "what we do in life, echoes in eternity" would make a great tag line on a poster.
