  9. Spirit of Shankly are delighted to hear the news today that the failed ownership of Tom Hicks and George Gillett has come to an end. Our Union was formed to protect the Club and to specifically hold any owners to account and it is gratifying to see the efforts our members have made to removing them from their failed tenure. Liverpool Football Club are now rid of Hicks and Gillett and this has been achieved through the magnificent efforts of the supporters, from the early days of formation in the Sandon Pub, calling Hicks and Gillett to account, to campaigning and protesting tirelessly. It is our members along with the help and backing of other groups from the worldwide support of Liverpool Football Club that has seen the back of Hicks and Gillett. Hicks and Gillett made the mistake of underestimating our members' commitment, passion and love for our football Club and they forgot that the passion that allegedly attracted them in the first place to Anfield was our most powerful weapon when their lies began. Hopefully the era of their failed ownership has now gone and the Union can look forward to re-engagement with the Board and new owners, over the issues that are crucial to supporters such as ticketing, travel, a stadium solution and supporters securing an equity stake within the Club with the appropriate representation that would entail. There is an opportunity for the Board and new owners NESV to reverse the disenfranchisement that has been recognised by the Club and to acknowledge that an independent and vibrant supporter base is only good for the Club. The actions of the UK based Board members throughout the court cases cannot be ignored, and their contribution to ridding the club of Hicks and Gillett must be recognised. They have been victims of the lies told by their former employers and the mistakes made by their predecessors, which meant their words could not always be trusted by supporters until they were backed up by actions. We are delighted to see that in this instance their words have been backed by their actions and we commend this. It is now time to put our Club back together and the Spirit of Shankly gives a cautious welcome to the Club's new owners NESV and hopes they will not miss the opportunity of an early engagement to start the process of healing our Club. Everyone connected to Liverpool Football Club - the owners, the Board, the manager and the fans needs to be pulling in the same direction in order to bring success back to Liverpool FC - this has been missing for far too long. The Union's Management Committee would again like to acknowledge the debt we owe to our members and the efforts and sacrifices they have made to achieve this success. And hopefully, for the final time.............................Tom and George, You're Still Not Welcome Here. http://www.spiritofshankly.com/news/Spirit-Of-Shankly-Statement-on-LFC-Takeover.html Spirit Of Shankly
  10. Following on from our earlier release regarding the Court Hearing tomorrow (Tuesday 12th October) we have been informed that the hearing will be opened and then adjourned in a matter of minutes. Therefore Spirit Of Shankly will not be travelling from Liverpool to the Courts in London tomorrow, but will be planning to attend the subsequent hearing. We apologise for any inconvenience caused and we will update members as soon as possible regarding any future date. Those who expressed an interest for tomorrow will be given first priority for any subsequent travel arrangements. Those who still wish to be in attendance tomorrow, we ask you to again consider the feelings of those who will be attending the 7/7 Inquests also taking place tomorrow. Spirit Of Shankly
  11. The Court Case, challenging the Boards decision to sell the club, is taking place at the Royal Courts of Justice tomorrow, Tuesday 12th October 2010. It is listed to not start before 10:30am in Court 16. There is some confusion, with many left wondering whether this is Royal Bank of Scotland versus the owners, or LFC versus the owners. However, our feelings and stance remains clear - we are anti Tom Hicks and George Gillett. With this in mind, we would like to make our feelings known outside the Court and would invite members and fans of Liverpool Football Club to do the same. We will therefore be looking to lay on travel from Liverpool to London for those interested in making the journey and details of the travel arrangements will be released shortly dependant upon demand. If you are available, and would like to travel, could you please notify us of your interest so we have some indication of numbers. We are aware that many members and Liverpool FC fans would like to show their feelings towards Tom Hicks at the court case but we would ask you to notify us only if you are interested in going and are available. We have also been made aware that the 7/7 Bombing Inquest may also being held at the Royal Courts this week, potentially on the same day and will be attended by grieving relatives. As Liverpool fans will appreciate, this Inquest will be a raw and very emotional time for relatives, as the circumstances of their loved ones deaths will be recounted, and we urge people to show the families our respect while making our feelings about the ownership of Liverpool Football Club known to the media, the courts and Tom Hicks and George Gillett. If you are available and would like to travel to London, then please make your interest known to travel@spiritofshankly.com. Please be aware that given the potential 10:30am start of the court case, you may need to leave Liverpool as early as 4am. http://www.spiritofshankly.com/news/Court-Hearing-Tuesday-12th-October.html Spirit Of Shankly
  12. Following the Spirit of Shankly EGM held on Saturday (http://www.spiritofs...GM-_-Video.html ), the Union's members have voted overwhelmingly in favour of all six resolutions put before them (http://www.spiritofs...ng-Results.html ). The main proposal detailed the strategy and action that the Union was asking its members to approve - this can be seen in the EGM agenda (http://www.spiritofs...ting_agenda.pdf ). In light of the positive vote of the Union's members, we will be developing the next steps in our "Not Welcome" campaign to see the end of Hicks and Gillett by demanding "No to Refinance – Finance The Fans". This campaign puts the only people who can be trusted, the supporters, at the centre of a cure to our club's problems. No longer should we have Tom Hicks and George Gillett, or their ilk running a football club into the ground. Instead we will have proper custodians – us, the supporters. This Sunday we will send out a message, loud, passionate, and clear that we, the supporters, want Tom Hicks and George Gillett out. We want RBS to call in their loans and say no to refinance. Supporters are the only credible solution, the only constant in this ever changing process. We want RBS to finance us, the supporters. We want the Board of the Club to get behind the supporters' proposal or to publicly explain why, with access to millions of supporters around the world willing to be involved, they will not. We will tell the Board, RBS and the watching world what we want. Before the Blackpool game, we will be marching from the Liverpool FC Supporters' Club on Lower Breck Road to Anfield. We will gather at 1:30pm - so we can show them our strength and the support for our campaign. After the game we will hold another sit in protest in the ground and we would ask everyone to stay and make their voices heard so again, we can repeat the message - this is our football club. Any repayment of debt or profits to be made by potential purchasers will come from the revenue streams we supporters provide. So who better to save the football club than they very people who have made this club what it is and who will be the provider of the finance to solve its debt problems? People will laugh, mock and tell you it can't be done. Well, the owners got away with it before because we let them. Not anymore. The Board, RBS and the other money people will try and get away with it again but they will only succeed if we let them - this time though, we won't. Ask those that scoff what they offer as an alternative – refinancing the Americans is a very large step towards the abyss, in addition there is no queue of potential purchasers. Supporters are the solution. We've always been the solution. On Sunday, let's show them that. No To Refinance - Finance The Fans We ask all those attending to bring along their flags and banners. We also require volunteers to assist with the stewarding. If you are able to help, or have any further ideas, please email directaction@spiritofshankly.com http://www.spiritofs...rd-October.html
  13. Tomorrow should be a game where we are looking to get back on track on the pitch. Instead, we will be fighting for our Club, to get it back on track in the boardroom. We, as supporters, have a duty to protect the future of our Football Club. Tomorrow is the continuance of a campaign to fulfil that duty. During, and after the Sunderland game we will protest. Today we have seen and heard what the manager has had to say about protests. Our message remains as clear as ever - we will do what we feel is necessary. As supporters we don't want to be protesting. We want to be talking football not finance, we want to be talking left backs not leveraged buyouts. Instead, circumstances dictate that we must do all of this - the protesting, the campaigning, the pushing to have new owners. Over three years ago, this "group of people" were watching new signings such as Torres and Mascherano, looking forward to a 'spade in the ground' in 60 days that would see us with a brand new stadium, competing with the best in the world, and built in time for Jamie Carragher's testimonial. This "group of people" has over 50,000 people supporting what it is trying to achieve, with countless more supporting the campaign for new owners. We are very much anti owner for one clear and unequivocal reason - they have lied. This "group of people" will protest and will continue to protest, because we have a bond, an unbreakable one with our Football Club. We can't just walk away. This Football Club is part of who we are, it's part of who our parents and grandparents are and were, and it's part of who our children will be. It's an emotional attachment that cannot be ridden roughshod over by businessmen in the pursuit of greed rather than glory. It's an emotional attachment that means we will do whatever it takes, regardless of whether it makes things more difficult or not, to save our Football Club. This "group of people" will always support the position of Liverpool manager. We will continue to demand that the resources of the Football Club are directed towards assisting him in his job rather than being squandered on servicing unsustainable and unnecessary levels of debt. The protests will continue. To those who say it affects the team performance, our argument is simple and honest - massive debts, crippling interest repayments and lying owners are what is affecting the team. If you don't believe us, read the accounts. Or ask the players who have recently spoken of the need for new owners. Or better still, ask Roy Hodgson. It's our duty, our responsibility, and our desire to bring about change at our Football Club. To rid it of men with no honesty, no integrity and no concern for the Club's future. Tomorrow, we will carry out that duty. Tom and George: Not Welcome Here
