Hello all, I am a member of a Charity called the Chernobyl Childrens' Project. Many of you will remember the Chernobyl disaster 23 years ago. The radiation cloud badly affected the country of Belarus. Today, the country is still heavily polluted. The charity offers kids in the Gomel area of Belarus the chance to take a holiday away from the radiation. A month in the UK, eating and drinking healthy food, will possibly extend their lives by 3 or 4 years. Myself and the wife have had kids stay at our home for the last couple of years and we have enjoyed helping make their time over here enjoyable. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chernobyl_disaster http://www.chernobyl-children.org.uk/ The co-ordinator in Leeds told me that 4 or 5 times a year, a convoy of trucks takes supplies and clothing over to the affected areas. He said that the kids love football and especially the Premiership. Unfortunately, a lot wear Manchester United shirts. Apparently they are the most high profile club and the only team all the children know. I was saddened by this since they have been through enough suffering in their lives without having to wear s****. I told him that Liverpool supporters were the most generous fans in the world and that I would try to raise a load of LFC clothing so that we could load a truck and go later this year. To see the smiles on the kids' faces when they see the Liverpool shirts would be a sight to see. Would anyone help me by letting me have their old gear? Small sizes ideally but anything you have no more need for. I would be very grateful. A chance to do good would be reason enough, but also a chance to spread the word for our club. The Liverpool Supporters’ Player of the Season game. Hello everyone. Some of you may know me. I am a visitor to quite a few LFC sites and have been the custodian of the player of the season game for 5 years now. The game has spanned 5 different sites in its time and last year the main voters came from Est1892, 6CM, Scouser Tommy, TLW and YNWA. I am hoping that more voters from other sites will give a more accurate picture of our feelings as Liverpool supporters. I am hoping that you will play a part in this 6th year to enable us to get a picture of our players’ performances and to crown a worthy winner come May 2010. Previous winners: 2005 – Jamie Carragher 2006 – Steven Gerrard 2007 – Dirk Kuyt 2008 – Javier Mascherano 2009 – Xabi Alonso This year, the format will be the same. Instead of voting for a single player as your Man of the match, you vote for your top 3. This enables a “steady Eddie” like Reina or Kuyt to get his mentions and gain some points. (I did think about a top 5 list, but can foresee problems when the result goes against us…getting people to vote for 1 player is hard enough!) Points are the same as last year, top player gets 5 points, second player gets 3 and third player gets a single point. All competitive games are counted, CC, FA, CLQs, CL and league matches. I shall post current league tables so that we can follow the players’ performances throughout the season. Hopefully, the tables will put an end to the “Babel is s****” type of arguments. If a moderator could ensure a sticky when I post a Man of the Match thread, I would be grateful…also it would be nice if I could have a sticky league table thread for the game throughout the season. I know a lot of people reckon Stevie is our best player and indeed he should be treasured; but Xabi has shown that he is a crucial heartbeat for our side. The 5 Sites to vote are YNWA, Scouser Tommy, Est1892, Six Crazy Minutes and The Liverpool Way. Each will have their victim players and some will have their favourites, some posters take the opportunity to make jokes (IE: voting for opposition players/referee or Manager)...but overall I believe this format gives a good indication of the way we feel players have performed over the whole season Dirk Kuyt has seriously become indispensable and will be a valued player for years to come. Mascherano and Benayoun have also become consistent. We are lucky to have a powerful core of good players now. With Riera, Insua and Lucas set to improve, we could find that 19 comes sooner rather than later.
