Qualified for a bus pass today. Not that they give you a bus pass over here, but I can call for a free ride on the Flagler County short bus.

At this new age, a huge list of free or discounted things are now open to me. Free coffee every day, free ice cream for the rest of May. Senior discounts galore.

    BTW, getting older sucks.

Yeah, I turned 60 at Christas and got my senior railcard (35% off most fairs) and free prescription meds & eye tests. Most other stuff I have to wait til I'm 67. Fre ice cream sounds good.

The demographics.  What century is this?

Lammy aside, that is dazzlingly white.

Edit: on reflection dazzling is probably not the mot juste.  Maybe 'depressingly' is more appropriate. But that then Lammy would add to the depression. OH! I don't know!

  3. I often get called a b*****dised version of my surname instead of my forename by people too stupid/lazy to actually bother reading or listening.

Keita and Fabinho were the same summer weren’t they? And we tried for Fekir that same summer?

    f***ing Keita.

We did te deal for Naby months before and agreed that he'd arrive in the summer; Fab was from nowhere in the summer window - completely out of the blue. Is my less than reliable memory of it.

You may be pleased to know that the "Britain First" candidate Nick Scanlon got 20,519 votes

    Count Binface got 24,260 votes

    (according to Politics Joe)

I always have a mental block when see the name Count Binface written down anywhere. Somehow in my head I think it's an actual nickname for Starmer. So Tosh's post had me well confused because I was thinking 'was this Starmer's last constituency GE result?"

Going to Split in that Croatia this month.

    Rome in September.

    2 places I've never visited.

September is a good time to go to Italy - not quite so busy, not quite so mentally hot.

  7. Holy Spider - female journalist investigates a series of murders of sex workers in a provinicial city in Iran. Great performance from the lead and - jeez - if you think male privilege & misogeny is a problem here, wait til you see this...

One way car hire is always a f***er. Have you tried Rome2Rio to see if there are coach options that may help?

Yeah, we were talking about looking at the bus options. There is a train heading in our direction on that last leg - it is only about 150km but it takes 15 hours. So hire car or bus/coach are really the only options.

  10. Pretty much got our Spanish trip sorted now - a couepl of nights in each of Seville => Cordoba => Jaen => Granada => Almeria which we'll do by train and then from Almeria we'll pick up a hire car for the last leg which is to get to LaManga where we're meeting our older daughter & grandson.

Only trouble with that last bit is that taking a hire car from one place and dropping it off elsewhere seems to beyond the ken of the hire car company websites... but I've got time to sort it out. I might try again when I'm in Barcelona next week - they might be more responsive when the request is from within Spain.

I didn't see the game for once but I just saw MOTD. Seems like Elliott took his goal well and had a good game. Gakpo played well up top. Was that how you saw it?

I only saw the second half so it won't tell the full story, Elliott was great on the ball but, without taking anything away from his performance, I think the Spurs defence allowed him to be that impressive. Gakpo didn't seem to have that many touches but certainly took his goal really well. A few people further up the thread mentioned Endo - I though he had a good game defenesively and in transition but he gave posession away really cheaply a few times.

Quansah impressed me defensively, it usually his coolness in possession that marks him out but he stepped in with a few really decisive challenges yesterday.

  12. Yesterday morning Mrs.C told me that I'd been talking in my sleep during the previous night. Always a bit worrying when she says this but I went with the flow... "So, er, what was I saying?"

"I have no idea, you were speaking German".

Which is all well and good but beyond ein, zwie, drei and danke/bitte, I don't speak German at all. But apparently I was there rabbiting on in what sounded like full on fluent jabber.

Its good going to a game as a neutral. Went to a couple of QPR games and enjoyed not being as stressed out

Up to a point, I was invited to a Glasgow Rangers CL game a few years back. The racism was terrifying.

Know the feeling! Was in Brazil a few months back and splashed out on a Corinthians shirt. 😆

Did you get asked to leave the shop for that?

Yeah just saw that  - shocking news. As he's been playing recently I guess it musy have been a sudden unexpected medical thing or an accident. Thoughts going out to his family.

Meaningless. Last summer Hendo and Fab were all over the summer advertising push for the new away kit...
