Xabi's corners right at the end

Ignoring that abject performance last Sat., it was the first time (in a long time) I thought we were going to score from a corner (the ones right at the end). Alonso took those corners with so much speed and swerve, I thought at least one of them was going to go in . Why cant our players do that more often and not “float” the damn ball into the danger areas. We need someone who can take good corners and make the oppostion feel that giving away a corner to us is a goalscoring opportunity, and not a let-off. Everytime Giggs takes a corner, there's always this feeling they are going to score from it.

If anything our corners are worse than our set pieces (long time). SG seems to take most of them and a lot of the time they dont get past the first player. I never understood why not let someone else, say Finnan or Aurelio or Kewell take the corners.

the 'don't get past the first man' was a criticism that could be appled to gerrard 18 months ago, His set pieces in general have come leaps and bounds this season and his corners this year have mostly been of excellent quality, imo.

Fair call that. Although I prefer Xabi as I want Gerrard to be on the edge of the box. Stevie's set piece distribution has improved though, no doubt.

Good points - he was doing that when he first came, and I remember the argument about who should take them.

I'd prefer Stevie on the edge, or even in the box now and again - it would give us more options.

Agree with some of the other posters that in general his corners rarely get past the first man.

I remember Stevie G scoring a few when he was driving in to the box from our Gary Mac / D Murphy corners.
