  5. LFChistory.net is thrilled to announce that its vast database now includes every single opposition player who has faced Liverpool Football Club since the first League season in 1893-1894. To date that is no less than 13,352 players! You can look up any game except for the first season in 1892-1893 and see how the opposition lined up that day. 6. Peter Thompson was an amazing right-footed left winger, who tormented full-backs. Rarely has a footballer with as much natural ability worn the shirt of Liverpool and he is in a class only reserved for a select few. Liverpool was envied by other teams for possessing such a powerful pairing on opposing flanks as Thompson and Callaghan. Thompson went straight into the first team and played in all 42 League games as Liverpool won the title by four points. He won another championship medal in 1966 as well being part of the first Liverpool team to win the FA Cup the year before. When asked if we were ready to take a 550-mile round trip to spend a couple of hours with Peter Thompson in Kent, we said instantly 'Yes, we are going all-in.' Off we drove from Bootle and the great winger didn't disappoint. Read more here. http://www.lfchistory.net/Articles/Article/3315
  7. Here's something that might interest a few of you. How much is the £2.5 we paid for Hyypia in today's market? The real cost of Liverpool players since Premier League. An interesting take on Liverpool's most expensive players in the last 20 years. http://www.lfchistory.net/Articles/Article/3310
  8. Mods - Can this be a sticky for the next 24 hours ? The authors of "Liverpool: The Complete Record" who are also the editor and webmaster of LFChistory.net, Arnie Baldursson and Gudmundur Magnusson, will sign their book at Waterstone's, Liverpool One along with Liverpool legends Ron Yeats and Tommy Smith at 11am on Saturday, October 22. If you have enjoyed our work on the website throughout the years it's a good opportunity to say hi to us as well as getting a signed copy of our debut book that we are very proud of and put a lot of work into taking considerable care to find new angles on Liverpool FC's history and rare photos from families of former legendary players. Tommy Smith and Ron Yeats need no introduction. They played together in Liverpool's defence throughout the latter part of the 60's and boast a total of 1092 appearances for Liverpool between them. Yeats was Shankly's captain for 10 years, which means he's the longest-serving skipper in the club's history. At the end of his managerial career Bill Shankly paid Yeats the ultimate compliment: "He was a natural to be a captain; a big man who commanded respect and his position in the centre of defence meant that he could see everything going on in front of him. A captain should be like a puppeteer, with the other players on his strings all the time." Tommy Smith was as tough as they come as Bob Paisley could testify: "Tommy hated losing and was quite prepared to put himself through all manner of pain and suffering to avoid it. There was an element of notoriety about it which I think he quite enjoyed, but if any opponent cared to put that reputation to the test, Tommy didn’t disappoint them. His fearless nature not only unsettled the opposition, it inspired his team mates. They drew strength from his example. It was little bit like having a big brother around to sort out any trouble you got into. Seeing Tommy racing on to the field after having a couple of stitches inserted into a head wound could put courage into the most cowardly of hearts – as long as you were on his side!" So bring your shin guards (just in case) to Waterstone's for a unique opportunity to meet these magnificent legends from Liverpool's glorious history and purchase "Liverpool: The Complete Record book" with their signature. 16. Neil Ruddock described himself as a "Hell Razor" but it is difficult to comprehend now how he got that reputation as today he is a very much grounded and a quiet person who... that couldn't be further from the truth actually... 17. Hello all We on LFCHistory.net just relaunched our website last week with a brand new look and we have more or less re-programmed the whole website from the scratch. So please take a look and give us some feedback :-) Also we came across this wonderful song in a 1907 edition of Liverpool Echo. "Hurrah for the Reds" was composed by W Seddon on 31st August 1907. Paul Wilkes is a singer/songwriter from Liverpool who so graciously agreed to record for us the first known supporters song for Liverpool. You can find the song and the songsheet for the song right here. http://www.lfchistory.net/Articles/Article/3145 Enjoy :-) LFCHistory.net
