can anyone recommend any good books on the Balkan conflict (the recent conflict)

Out of that list, I would say Laura Silber and Allan Little's book offers a very good overview of the disintegration of Yugoslavia. For more specific stuff on Bosnia from the link, I would recommend Ed Vulliamy (of Guardian) and David Rieff (Susan Sontag's son). Also, Kemal Kurspahic is the war-time editor of Oslobodjenje, Sarajevo daily, so his book will provide a local's view. Finally, Brendan Simms absolutely kicks John Major's ass in Unfinest Hour.

I'm still trying to get my head around what happened there...I've spoken to a number of people from Serbia, Bosnia and Croatia and each have their own conflicting stories etc..
