Apparently Moyes signed Kroldrup without going to see him himself, took the advice of a european scout working for the club. A £5.1 million bid was lodged and Udinese the Italian club who Kroldrup was playing for couldn't believe their luck and immediately accepted Everton's bid.

Only after the player was signed and all the neccessary paperwork had been completed, and the player himself had completed his first training session with his new team mates did Moyes begin to smell a rat.

Moyes was apparently totally unimpressed with what he had seen and it was only then after he made enquiries with the scout that it dawned on him. Everton had signed the WRONG player!!!

The player the scout had watched had been Kroldrup's centre-back partner!

This was why the Everton bid was immediately successful and they (Udinese)were it has been reported, totally amazed with the size of the bid.

So, Moyes now had a problem, he had a centre-back he knew was not good enough for the Premiership, he also needed to off-load him and get back if possible the club's £5.1 million.

How was he going to do this without losing face with the Everton fans. The first thing he did was report to the press that Kroldrup was injured, he did in fact have a slight injury but not enough to keep him out for 3 months ,which is what happened.

Eventually through pressure from local phone-ins, fan groups and local and national press asking questions about this £5.1 million invisible man, and also because of the club's injury list, Weir was injured etc, he eventually had to play him against Villa at Villa Park.

It was there that David Moyes worst fears were realised, Kroldrup had a stinker, was out of his depth and Moyes knew it.

The problem now was that other managers had now seen Kroldrup's non-performance so there was no chance of them getting back their £5.1 million- and he knew it.

It has been recently reported that Florentina have put in a bid for £3.6 million, my source tells me that is in fact bulls***, they have offered Everton 1 million Euros- which is approximately £700,000.

An agreement has been reached with Florentina to release to the media that the figure is £3.6 million, mainly, to save face at Everton Football Club.

So, there you have it, mismanagement on a grand scale which goes to show how EFC went from being called the Mersey Millionaires in the sixty's to the total shambles which the club is today.

Moyes apparently blames Chief Executive Wyness, he blames the european scout, others within the club blame Chairman Bill Kenwright.

In summary, surely the true blame lies with MR DAVID MOYES THE MANAGER. Why? Because surely if you are going to sign a player from a european league for the above mentioned fee (£5.1 million) you, YOURSELF go to watch that player.

This morning it is reported that Moyes is bringing back Alan Stubbs from relegation-bound Sunderland, what a superb forward thinking manager he is, bringing back to the club a 35 year old "has been".

Yes, Moyesy you are doing a fine job- keep up the good work.

moyes needs a director of football to stop him f***ing up in the transfer market ,he has less room for error at a club that has less money ,cahill was a good buy for 2 million but who else?

Arteta, Martyn, Yobo...

I very much doubt that article is true. It makes him out to be a player who's best suited a few divisions below. He was one of Udinese's best players when they finish fourth in Serie A and qualifed for the Champions League.

have you seen him play before mate?? did he look a decent player who'd settle into the Premiership or did you have reservations??

i only ask as i've never seen him (not even in that Villa game mentioned) so have no idea.. if that story is true though then, as i've said elsewhere, it's shocking..

Not enough to have an opinion on whether he'd do well here. But he was highly rated at Udinese (and in Serie A as a whole), played in most of their games when they surprisingly finished 4th and as a result, played for his national team. Doesn't sound like a £700k player to me. As much as I'd love it to be true.

I have a similar story about Sunderland last time they were in the prem, Reid was manager, this one was true though.

The story comes from a guy I used to work with, who was/is a steward at Sunderland, he got talking to a member of the coaching staff and the subject of nunez (I think, small, coloured, south american striker) came up, Peter Reid bought the player on the recommendation of a scout, Reid paid a reasonable fee for him, when the player arrived, he was told accommodation had been arranged for him and as he was single, it wasn't large accommodation, to this the player replied but what about my wife and kids, the player was also notably much shorter than had been expected, and locked a lot older, it was soon realised that the wrong player (with the same name) had been bought.

He was from Honduras and i don't think that's true either.

You can't beat Sir Bobby for getting players mixed up :nono:

Unless you're Graham Taylor and one of your black players scores

Liverpool - Markus Babbel

Pompey - Lua Lua (Malaria)

Bayern Munich - Sebastian Deisler (Schizophrenia and Manic Depression)

Just to name 3. Clubs want their players to be loyal, the least they can do is to support their players during difficult periods. Inserting a clause in someones contract that says you can cancel it if they have a relapse of cancer, is low.

Deisler never suffered from schizophrenia

That Everton/Kroldrup story is obviously completely untrue, he's a very good player

Everton haven't failed us in delivering their bi-annual post-Transfer window mantra after yet another fruitless window just passes on by.

Are their fans really that fickle that they believe this every time :

Moyes in pledge to bring in fresh faces Feb 3 2006

By David Prior Daily Post Staff

DAVID MOYES last night told Evertonians he would be using his transfer kitty "to its full potential" this summer.

The Everton manager has spoken out in an attempt to appease fans disgruntled by the lack of activity in the January window.

Despite a rash of injuries and a chronic shortage of strikers, only former skipper Alan Stubbs was added to the squad in what was an unexpectedly quiet month for the Goodison club.

That was despite the departures of Marcus Bent and Per Kroldrup, the latter having played just two games since his £5million summer arrival from Udinese.

But, Moyes insists, the inactivity was not down to a lack of effort on his or the board's part.

He said: "Since the January transfer window closed on Tuesday night there have been many questions asked as to why as a club we decided not to act on bringing in any new faces.

"These questions from Everton fans are completely under-standable and I felt it was only right for me to explain why we took the decisions we did. As I have always said ever since I arrived here, I will always be upfront with our supporters.

"It was due to a variety of circumstances. Even prior to the opening of the window at the turn of the year, myself and the backroom staff had already pinpointed the players we would like to have here.

"But as time went on it became clear that some of these players were simply no longer available and the values of those who were had, in some cases, doubled from when we first started looking at the possibility of a transfer.

"The failure to bring anybody in was certainly not for the lack of trying nor was it due to a lack of funds, as has been suggested in recent days."

Several players, from Preston's David Nugent to Trabzonspor's Fatih Tekke, were linked with a move to Goodison but no deals materialised.

Moyes insisted he had been trying right up until Tuesday's midnight deadline, but that he was only interested in players who would be long-term successes for the club.

He added: "Bill Kenwright and the Board of Directors at Everton ensured money was available to spend, plus there was the added funds from the sales of Marcus Bent and Per Kroldrup.

"So the money was available but the players were not and I can confirm all the players you have been reading about have, in the majority of cases, been contacted through their respective clubs.

"There have been many stories that have been false but the players Evertonians would expect us to be targeting have been throughout January and even before then.

That article is blatantly untrue.

The laughable things about the transfer is

A. that he went there in the first place. He could have played CL footie this season. juve have been sniffing him out for a few seasons, he would probably get a good move after proving himself in that tournament.

B. That Moyes signed a fairly decent defender and couldn't figure out a way to use him.

Come on - even Moyes isn't so thick as to not know how to use a central defender, surely...
