I think I'm right in saying that the Spanish pronounce the 'b' in 'Xabier' as a 'v'. So Crisp features pronounciation of Xabi's name is spot on.

Letters at the start of a word have different rules for those in the middle.

 

As far as i'm aware, Xabi is pronounced Zabi, with a very slight Conneryesque slur on the Z. Not a Ch, but a Zsh

 

However, i could be completely and utterly wrong.

As Elisha and Big Stuff said, it's more of a Zh sound, there's no real equivalent in the English language, the only one I can think of is the word "Erasure" the "su" bit of that is that same sound.
