Corfu is magic. Between Ypsos and Kassioppi is a nice stretch.

Cheers....whereabouts on the island is that? N, S, E or W?

Pelakas was great when I was there. Paleokastritsa was too. Benitses was a bit of a sh*t-show though.

Benitses is the worst place I've ever been to

Blackpool is better

I did undersell it a bit, but I was there in 1984 and it was horrible. Sticks in my mind as being up there with Oxford, Mississippi and Torremolinos.

They were actually selling booze there that was cut with some sort of really cheap hooch that was making people really ill. Vile place.

We've just booked to go back to the same hotel in Crete that we went to about three years last September. In all of our joint adult lives me and the missus have never done a 'repeat' holiday and I'm feeling a bit apprehensive about it in case she is building it up beyond expectations because she enjoyed it there so much the first time. On the other hand I don't really care too much as long as it's warm and sunny and the pool is as good as it was last time.

And on the subject of Cala D'or from the previous page, my wife's aunt and uncle have a villa in the next place along from there (Cala Ygos) and the first time we made a fleeting visit abut 28 years back it was pretty low-key and relatively unspoilt, but when we went back for a proper holiday there about twelve years ago it was horrendously built up and over commercialised (I hated walking down the streets in the evening because of all the mither from 'hosts; standing outside, begging you to go in each and every bar and restaurant that you passed). God knows what its like now but I found it really horrible last time (albeit still with a few nice spots here and there). I wouldn't go back again now.

Any Greek island experts?

Going in August for two weeks with the family but not sure where.

I'm edging towards Corfu as it's a shorter flight, a bit greener and sounds nice. Anyone been?

Went to Corfu as a kid, loved it, years ago now though obviously.

Kefalonia is lovely as well.

Paros (and Anti-Paros) is lovely,  as is Naxos. But can get a bit windy due to the Meltami winds coming up from north Africa. Beautiful beaches on both.

We've been a to a few of the greek island now and the only one I would say you should avoid is Kos. Not because it's bad or owt but there's hardly anything on it apart from holidays resorts. Although it is handy for Nisyros which is well worth a visit (volcano, abandoned village etc.).

Corfu, Crete, Kefalonia all really good. Although Crete is surprisingly big and needs a proper exploration to make the most of it.

But you're right - Corfu is closer and more lush but because of its location can also be a bit more subject to wet weather. We were there in June last year and had a fantastic couple of weeks but a few torrential downpours as well.

Going to Thorpe Park in September but want to add a few nights on somewhere nearby for a little staycation. Can anyone recommend any nice towns/places around Slough/Chilterns way?
