Whether prompted or reminded by today or not, Michael Cox has been promoting: No attackers in the 6 yard box until corner taken.

Just another complication for VAR.

I don’t see an issue with more refs or linesmen. Watching for fouls and cheating on dead balls is a good thing. There is too much that players get away with. VAR certainly helps too.

I've been saying this for ages

A goal-kick is in play from the moment the ball is kicked

Possibly the most interesting rule change of all. Until now, a goal-kick had to leave the area before being in play. That didn’t used to be an issue; goalkeepers almost always kicked the ball long into midfield where an aerial duel would take place near the halfway line.

But the rise in passing out of defence, and the subsequent rise of intense pressing high up the pitch to counteract it, has led to false breaks in play. When a goalkeeper passes out to a defender from a goal-kick and that defender has an opponent pressing them, they could deliberately intercept the ball in the penalty area and effectively buy a restart from the referee.

The penalty taker should be the player fouled. If he is ‘injured’ he needs to be subbed and his sub takes it.

I think that's an excellent rule.

I’m not averse to those old shootouts. It’s more competitive. Certainly a lot more similar to the opportunity that was created that the infraction stopped.

Goal difference much less important next season

The Premier League have announced a change to the way they will decide where teams who end the season level on points will finish in the table.

A head-to-head rule is being introduced which means that if clubs finish level on points in competition for important places, such as the title, Champions League qualification or relegation, their record in head-to-head matches will be used to separate them.

Makes the two games against city even more importanter

Double edged sword, on one side it looks fairer to tams that are closely matched abilitywise but it also opens up the possibility of a weak team such as huddersylast season playing a complete second string away to city and losing 15-0, no point them risking their first 11 in an attempt to keep the Score to 4-0

That's a terrible change.

At least goal difference rewards performance over the whole season as opposed to in two games.

I reckon it is only how crowded the football calendar already is that has stopped from bringing in rugby/NFL etc playoffs for the title.

Bet they were desperate last year for that permutation to occur whereby we were level on everything with City and had to play them in a one off match.

It's only head to head if teams can't be separated by goal difference or goals scored. So instead of a playoff. Away goals will come after h2h before playoff, so the new order will be:

Points

Goal difference

Goals scored

Head to head

Away goals scored

Playoff

That’s literally wrong.
