you can look up to bill gates and other businessmen though who impact the world through their products and then give back much of the money they have earned

Nah.

He's not stupid. He sees deals and goes for them. He is ruthless. He has made his name into a brand and markets it crassly but brilliantly. He network very well and uses leverage well.

He's also deceitful, bigoted, arrogant, shoots his mouth off before thinking, never admits that he's wrong, stiffs vendors, is a philanderer, has no taste whatsoever, and is just a nasty piece of work.

His one son isn't a good guy, his daughter is very nice, don't know about the rest.

On balance, he's a complete scumbag.

don't think any of that negates the potential for being generally thick. he stated that record cold winters mean there's no such thing as global warming. that's not the comment of an intelligent man.

i'd say people with business acumen often end up doing well regardless how they start. sugar, branson, many others started out with nothing. there are those who inherit millions and lose it all and those who inherit millions and turn it into billions.

Business acumen does not mean being smart and just because someone who started with millions ends up with billions doesn't mean they have the acumen of someone who started with nothing. Nor does it mean they are necessarily smarter than someone who lost it all, decisions made are only a part of the story.

and no des, we shouldn't look up to people just because they're succesful businessmen. there's nothing to look up to someone who claims immigrants are rapists.

Is there a context in which this is a smart thing to say? Do you think his requests for Obama's birth certificate were smart, does he strike you as someone who has any f***ing clue whatsoever when he speaks? He doesn't me which is why I'm at least prepared to accept that his fortune is not dependent on him being smart.

Agreed. He's not intelligent. He's not stupid either. He clearly has some EQ positives as well as some massive EQ negatives. He's an egomaniac though, which probably explains most of it.

Jim Webb's declared. Probably a no-hoper as it's really hard to see him getting close to the democratic nomination. He's an interesting, old-fashioned candidate who I like without agreeing with on everything. I'd certainly vote for him ahead of Hillary in a primary, but Sanders has a lot of momentum at the moment as the non-Hillary candidate.

the dems have to do something to make it less of a one-horse race. ultimately however much goodwill webb or sanders garners it's hard to see how they would carry the DNC approval to beat whoever the GOP nominee is.

.

If you want to take the name "Donald Trump" and make it into a brand, you are stupid.

Donald. Trump.

Very true. They do things that sensible people would never dream of doing.

But then again, what is intelligence, and what is stupidity? It's not just about IQ tests or sizes of bank accounts.

Or general c*ntiness.

there's academically smart, there's savvy smart etc

Donald Trump is clearly good at something, he may even be smart by academic standards, but if he is, he's dragged down by his ego which overrides his brain like Homer Simpson.

Any which way he's a c***, he's the male Sarah Palin

Exactly. He grifts hard and makes the most of opportunities presented to him. Doesn't mean we'd lose a cancer cure if he got buried by one of his dodgy construction projects tomorrow.

The man's a parody. Something that American school's use to exemplify the American Dream. "If this d****ead can do it, anyone can..."

And there are some people who just have a talent for making money.
