Wembley’s iconic arch to light up when goals are scored

Wembley’s iconic arch is to be illuminated by LED lighting which will react to moments such as goals scored and crowd noise during games.

The system, which consists of 228 large-scale LED floodlights said to create millions of colour combinations, will be up and running in 2015 with England’s first game coming on 27 March in the Euro 2016 qualifier against Lithuania. Before that, the Capital One Cup final is set for 1 March.

The arch will also react to social media trends during a match or event. This could reflect a particular team trending with the arch showing their colours, to a live barometer showing fans’ tweets to a question asked in commentary or at half-time.

They have surpassed themselves. pale, stale, male and demonstrably not fit for purpose... (wife was re,indeed of Bic's "lady pen")

The FA's suggestions to get more girls into football include

Providing colourful bibs, which should be "clean and smell nice"

Offering stamps and prizes including pocket mirrors and pink wristbands to encourage girls to attend practice sessions

Allowing girls the time to check their phones in a session and adding a social media breaks

Stop beginners being put off by "large heavy footballs" and the "risk of being hit by one" by having a variety of different balls and letting the girls choose which one to use

Find pitches where women don't play in front of boys or men in case they feel embarrassed

The Football Association has ended all of its sponsorships with betting companies, including mutually terminating a long-term Ladbrokes deal.

The decision follows a three-month review into the governing body's relationship with gambling firms.

The FA says it will continue to share important information with companies to identify suspect betting patterns. Chief executive Martin Glenn thanked Ladbrokes for its "professionalism and understanding" on the change of policy

Some damning stuff coming out at the Select Committee hearing today. Aluko alleged that they withheld some of her £80k settlement and told her they'd only release it if she made a statement that the FA was not institutionally racist. f***ing blackmail now aswell as racist.

Heads have to roll at the highest level after this.
