Gigs 2014+

Recommended Posts

They split up in 2000 before reforming with the original line-up in 2008. They now have a different drummer but seem to be a very active proposition again

I'm in London with a night to kill soon.

Are there any small venues that put on decent gigs?

I've looked at all the major and medium sized venues but there is feck all of interest on the night I'm there.

Anything as long as it's not jazz or dance music.

I've seen Metronomy and Stiff Little Fingers (supported by The Godfathers) at the Academy recently.

And I've recently started my own blog about gigs and stuff...

Didn't think much of Metronomy live.

cheers

Dingwalls looks like a possibility, band called The Crookes are playing - never heard of them.

I'm at XOYO the next night for Shearwater.

A lot of places in Hoxton, yeah. The Lexington in Islington normally has good gigs and a very good collection of bourbon.

Going there for the first time in a few weeks to see The Delines. Also The Hold Steady at Bush Hall which should be good fun.

My God, they must be as old as Adam. I saw them when I still lived in Britain. Do they have Zimmer frames?

saw Lady Gaga last week with the nipper. Had a call at 4pm last Monday asking whether I wanted a couple of freebies, so I said yes.

She was actually really good

Roseland Ballroom?

In an unexpected and quite bizarre twist to an afternoon/evening last week, I ended up in a private box watching Justin Timberlake at the o2.

He was very good.

Roseland Ballroom?

yep, Most Un-Gaga, it holds what, 4,000? It was way more gig-like than stupid stadium-rock; no epic feats of engineering outfits, just a pretty boiled-down show

Saw The Lightning Seeds and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra at the Phil last week. Ian McCulloch, Terry Hall, Miles Kane and James Skelly all featured as guests. Mac obviously stole the show.

Saw Gary Barlow at the Arena last week. Not my choice as you may imagine. 6/10

Liverpool Sound City starts tonight - think I'm only doing the 2 nights, but some great stuff lined up. Tonight I am mostly looking forward to Gruff Rhys and Courtney Barnett

Shearwater at Xoyo last night - really good. At least they got a crowd this time, last time in Liverpool there was about 30 of us at Erics.

Sound City for 3 days now - I can already feel the hangovers.

Bought tickets to see Arcade Fire and Pixies in Marlay Park in June. Should be good.

That will be immense.

New Pixies stuff is dire, mind.
