The cricket

That was a terrible batting performance from England. The Windies are a decent team and England should be doing much better. It almost looked like they thought they just had to show up and get the wins.

That kid Joseph was amazing. His mother died, he still played and did pretty well. I hope the Windies can maintain this level and become a power again.

Thought England were more unfortunate in this test (after an abject performance in the first) was a bad tossto lose and bowled well enough to bowl windies out for 150 on another day.

However batting was awful once again-but you simply can’t be playing with 3 bowlers, 5 all rounders. 1 batsman and 2 unproven openers.

I was massively impressed with holder what a magnificent cricketer he has become. Saw him couple years ago and he was rubbish

If Root wasn't captain he'd be struggling to get in the team.

If he wasn't captain he might be making a few more.

I still think he is far and away their best batsman, probably the only one who has any sort of potential to bat more than a couple of sessions. I don't think his underachievement over the last couple of years, of which I've been probably his most vocal critic, can be seen in isolation from the absolute pile of s***e he's got around him.

The openers - nothing really to be said

Bairstow - playing like a man who is having a baffling sulk at having the glves taken off him so he can potentially nail down the key batting spot. What the f*** is his issue?

Stokes - becoming more and more a myth

Buttler - good player but never going to be reliable

Moeen - seems to have been found out

Jofra Archer is going to need to take about 7-40 every innings if they are going to get anything out of the Ashes and even then they'd probably lose. He's probably wondering if he's backed the right horse.

What has been intersting about this series is that Windies have defied the lazy stereotypes of calypso cricket by showing far greater discipline with bat and ball. Perfect innings by Bravo for the match situation and Roach, Gabriel and Joseph have all shown real skill. Holder has become a much more effectve player than Stokes.

I think England have become obsessed with finally winning a World Cup and so everything has become about that.

Its been a very good display by WI but let's not forget they got humped by Bangladesh whilst displaying all the stereotypes that have been levelled at them for years now.

England have looked abysmal again but back in home conditions they will probably pull off an Ashes win just as they managed a 4-1 win v the supposed best team in world cricket last summer.

Oh yeah it is way too soon to talk of a resurgence in West Indies cricket - if that is what was ppening, as opposed to England just being massive s***houses, then I'd actually be quite pleased.

But judging them on this series they have played good and 'proper' Test match cricket.

There isn't a really good side around, probably hasn't been since SA lost Smith and Kallis and saw Amla, ABDV, Morkel and Steyn start to decline around the same time.

I think the Australian pace attack, if they stay fit, will be too much for England though. Can't see England scoring 250+ too often against them and reckon the toss will be masive. Whoever gets the best of the conditions will win.

Our former overseas got 84 against India today in the T20

That was a hiding they gave India.

Ben Duckett and Sam Hain sound to be in decent form for the Lions in the unofficial test v India A. Duckett has got a couple of scores on the tour so far.

Issue with that list is that they're all all rounders of sorts, albeit Bairstow & Buttler are now playing as specialist batsmen. From 5 down to 10 it's all rounders. There's too lads in there who would look brilliant batting at 7 IMO. There's the issue that there is nobody else I guess, but England feel like a team with 5 or 6 number 7 batters. I think that can work if your 1-4 are rock solid. But like you say, the openers have been an issue for years now and Root's form isnt great

Vince has had his chances and shown he isn't good enough.

But then that doesn't stop them picking other lads again and again I suppose.

Genuinely astounded that Jennings is playing. He's one of the worst Test cricketers I've ever seen.

Can't help but feel they've given in to Bairstow's whinging.

It’s with reference to Jennings that I feel Vince is a miles better bet.

With the obvious flaw that he kept getting out,at least he looked like a Test player when he was at the crease.
