Doobie Brothers -Listen to the music.

That phasing effect during the break is cool. I just read how they used to do it in production using a second analogue tape recorder. I wonder if modern day studio engineers ever try to use these techniques, or just stick to digital effects.

Reminds me of that story of Steely Dan having Michael McDonald do some vocals for (I think it was) Peg on the Aja album and Becker & Fagan made him sing every vocal line of every note of every chord that the song went through so that his voice is effectively singing the full chord at any point just as much as the rhythm guitars or keyboard block chords are.

When I first bought that (many years back) I played it and thought, nah, but returning to it quite a while later I played it back a few times and it really grew on me. I think it's one of those albums in his back catalogue that gets ignored/forgotten but is definitely in the top ten of his studio output I think.
