Big squad overhaul likely this summer ?

Recommended Posts

This transfer committee is working well.

I think we should forget about this big signing for this summer. We haven't got what if takes to pull it off.

Aye. We need to look at why.

Is it the several seasons of mediocrity? Is it that we're too slow to close the deal? Is it that we just lack the negotiating/dealing skill at the right level (ie Ayre's incompetence)? Is it that we don't offer enough in wages? Is it that those outside the club can't see that we are on an upwards trajectory?

Or is it all of them.

Or is it different in each case:

Mkhitaryan - Champions League finalist.

Costa - Champions League and settled in Madrid.

Willian - Portuguese manager who's been after him for a while, London, better chance of CL (we're led to believe).

When you break it down it's actually pretty clear, the first two want to play at the highest level - fine. Willian is the real sucker punch. Tottenham over Liverpool - that's now the reality.

Ben Arfa, you are f***ing kidding me, we should be all over that lad like a rash.

A thigh chafing rash? He's talented - but he's also a fat, lazy c*** who's injured for 2/3 of every season.

maybe we should stop briefing every f***ing journalist in Merseyside before we actually close the deal

I don't care about that. It won't make any difference to whether we sign them or not.

We took Spurs' captain off them a few years ago.

If players think they're ahead of us right now, it's hardly the end of the world. We're still a much bigger club and we will overtake them again.

It's the trend that's the worry, not the individuals. This one seems worse too cause it isn't just Champions League clubs we're losing out to anymore.

I don't get this. We have 4 players who can play in defensive midfield roles - Gerrard, Lucas, Henderson and Allen. Two of them are brilliant and two are quite good. In our front 3 to 4 positions we have Sturridge, Suarez and Coutinho, and then a few players who are either well below their level (Aspas, Borini) or too young (Sterlin, Ibe). We desperately need another serious attacking option. Any kind of long term injury to one of our main 3 front lads and we are in desperate straits.

If we are playing 4-3-3 we really only have 4 players for the central 3 positions but we have Coutinho, Aspas, Borini, Suarez, Sturridge, Sterling and Ibe for the front three.

So why have Spurs then? They are in the same position as we were last summer and we couldn't make a big signing then either.

You're right, there is nothing we could have possibly done to convince a player to come here over spurs, I mean who the f*ck are we when compared with Spurs? I know they are not in the CL or anything, but they are clearly less not in the CL than we are. Ayre et al are over-performing to the absolute best anyone could possible be and no one, on the wages we pay could do any better in any imaginable alternate universe. No one in the club has anything to answer for with their performances this window, nothing could conceivably done any better, we should be happy we are only as sh*te as we are quite frankly.

Grrrrr! Parry and Hicks and Gillett and Purslow and Comolli, etc, etc

Willian edging towards #Spurs move. #LFC still hopeful but not looking good. Seems there was some truth in those Russian media reports.

Don't believe I said that.

It is the trend that's worrying, even though we've gone all out to get a big name this year we've failed on each occasion. It probably reflects poorly on Rodgers and the lack of presence at the club. At the end of the day if you have the likes of Baldini with his standing in the game going up against the likes of Ayre, there's only going to be one winner. This is magnified when you have a manager unknown in Europe.

Reality of being out of CL is really hitting home for #LFC now. Willian will be third marquee signing they have missed out on this summer.

Yes, #Spurs aren't in CL but have a more realistic chance of qualifying for it this season, especially with additions made this summer #LFC

Richard Buxton ‏@Richard_Buxton_ 11m

@danieljameshoy There is that, but #LFC were prepared to match & even better his current salary.

We're losing out to a club that isn't in the CL and has won the grand sum of 2 League Cups and 1 FA Cup in the past 30 years.

Something is going wrong.

I don't know. Baldini maybe? AVB? London? Europa League?

It's not worked though for us has it?

there's probably a dead simple answer to this but if Willian is soooo schit hot, why the feck aren't Arsenal in the mix for his signature, offering the bright lights of London, CL footy and wages to match - and blow both ourselves & Spurs out of the water?
