Ramadan

KBR

Recommended Posts

Calculated to start on Friday 20th July in the UK... but dependent on the sighting of the moon.

When it's predicted to start where you are?

This year is going to be a killer. If as the calculation is correct & it starts on Friday... the first fast will start at 3:17am and end at 9:08pm in London. Just shy of 18 hours.

Hope the weather doesn't warm up!

Ramadan Kareem to you all.

Ramadan mubarak!

You working through it, our kid? Closing down here for the first two weeks to try to get used to it, plus the ports will virtually be at a standstill.

Trying to work out how to handle it, I'm thinking to maybe bleach through to fajr and then kip til zuhr.

Yer right about the weather, this'll do as it is for now.

Working through it? You must be joking brother!!

Same plan as you... stay up until dawn prayers, and then sleep through to about 1pm. Most of our stuff is from the Gulf these days, so we'll only catch them for a couple of hours & even then it's going to slow down for the month. So shouldn't be too bad work wise.

You staying in the UK for the whole month?

Might go to Bangladesh for a 4/5 days. Go see the teachers & the kids at the orphanage, and buy them some iftaar. Make up for the ones I missed over the years!!

Looks like its gonna be some long ones in uk this year. Friday the likely day.

Luckily doing the last 10 in Zimbabwe where they nice and short.

How long are the days in Zimbabwe? You're lucky!

still a few days to go guys.. its going to be a killer here in Karachi

Don't you get any of the monsoon rains over there?

They knocking the electricity off over there? Must be mental with no fans/air con and fasting in 40 degree heat

Karachi does not have electricity breakdowns in general like the rest of the country and our area is relatively cooler anyway. Around 29-30 Celsius but its the length which is going to be a killer.. Even last year I was struggling to work due to lack of sleep.

cool.. thats the true spirit of Ramadan.. Unfortunately, here its becoming so commercialised and everything revolves around the iftaar.

The rain in Karachi unlike other parts is sporadic. Im glad though as Ive had more than my fair share of rain living in England for over decade..

What are the rules that govern the dates it starts? Is it something like the Christian Easter dependent on the full moon after the vernal equinox?

yea its governed by the lunar calendar..

This thread is just a reminder of how quickly the years pass

Hopefully I won't have to call another ambulance.Last year I came across some old fella passed out in the street with blood pouring out his head, it was quite hot and he'd just passed out and cracked his head open.

Was he fasting and if he was how did you know as he was out like a light?

Spoke to my parents who are in Zimbabwe at the moment, fast starts at around 5.30am and finish around 5.45. Winter over in Africa so shorter fasts.

Over here it's about 19 hours.

Would have gone for the whole of Ramadan but could only get 3 weeks of work.

Yeah, he was fasting. I know because his son turned up after I'd called the ambulance,he was lying in the street outside his house.

I originally thought somebody had attacked him.

Bloody hell clear he should not have been fasting in the first place

Am I the only one to see the humour in the fact that this thread is currently sitting right next to the Man V Food thread at the top of the board?

After fasting 18 hours I might just pay one of these man vs food gaffs a visit
