I believe Ferguson is on a win win here and will pick a side of first team players and squad members. He has treated this competition with contempt over the years so going out will not hurt him,

but if he wins then hes beaten Liverpool with a reserve side. If he loses then hes probably kept his mate in a job and ensured we are still no longer a threat to him.
