I'm a little disappointed in Stevie TBH. As the captain of Liverpool FC playing in a meaningless friendly in which he was trailing 2-0. He should have asked to come off and give someone else a start. What difference did it make if it was a fairly young team, I thought that was the whole purpose. Stevie was all over the place and trying to pull England back on his shoulders. I can give him credit for his effort but in a friendly game with a makeshift team the decision to stay on and go flat out for 85 minutes was a little selfish. After all we have rested him in Europa League games so he is fresh for the league. Clubs must be pulling their hair out when the have to pay players 100,000 week for sitting in the treatment room after a sill pointless friendly that justifies what exactly?

i would LOVE it if next england game, preferably something important, liverpool refuse to release gerrard saying that he could have played 60 minutes but isnt fit enough to play the full 90 and capello cant be trusted to stick to the 60.

Stevie needs a slap for this. It's his responsibility if he makes himself available while carrying an injury. He did the same thing for England last terma and it cost him a third of a season - you'd think he'd know better by now.

I think if you take away his determination to play at all costs, particularly through a slight injury, then you take too much away from his game. It's asking for a robot-like instinct from a player who relies on producing a level of determination most players can't produce.

In short, either his club needs to pull him out, or his country needs to stick to the pre-arranged 60 minute max, regardless of circumstances. Capello, and the England medical team (in the absence of us having the balls to pull him out), are the people at fault, not Gerrard.

Grade 2 tear according to Bruckner on LFC now, seventh injury in 3 years playing for England.

Cole's injury not healing as well as it should have done, back training next week.

Dirk should be ok but very sore after playing 3 matches in a week.

Is that bad, ? It sounds mildly catastrophic sad.gif

How do you know he was carrying an injury? The annoyance seems to be that he was kept on for the vital last 20mins, when he's usually protected if at all possible because of his history. I seem to recall him carrying last year though, however there were also times when he's missed major tournament and qualifiers to have minor ops and get fit when he could have played. But as with Torres who seems to have set himself back a couple of months in going to the WC, you cant stop a player going to his country unless he doesn't want to go. Capello dont give a f***, he's got his own 6 mil to look after, he's managing by numbers, pulling populist moves

You have to ask why is Gerrard at 30, still bothering still playing international football.

If he wants to prolong his career with Liverpool under NESV he should look at quitting international football.

well the simple answer is that he enjoys it and that he's proud to be picked. it's naive and stupid to just expect pro players to view international football as the inconvenience that many club supporters do these days.

Who actually retires from it at 30. For England the major ones are Scholes and Carra who both felt marginaqlised, one came back and the other was very close to it. Then you have Shearer who was a bit older and looking after two knee reconstructions.
