Howard Webb watch

Recommended Posts

As with the Vogwatch...

Sunday - doesn't give nailed on FK against Carvalho for booting Defoe into next week on the edge of the box; doesn't give Spurs as nailed on a pen as you'll ever see when Carvalho clips Keane.

1-0 with a pen & Carvalho sent off may have changed the result.

But it's ot like Webb to make a poor decision that changes a game, is it? Especially not in favour of the 'big' teams

Webb is regarded as the best referee in the Prem, he'll be our ref at the World Cup.

As with all refs he'll make some c**k-ups, but in general he gets things right.

I think that that was right about 18 months ago Kev

He's having a f***ing mare now.

Alan Wiley is by far the stand out ref at the moment.

Cue him having a mare in a rivals/oppositions favour.

Chris Kamara (I know) has little good to say about Referees, but he was outspoken in his praise of Wiley's handling of the Sheffield derby. He's not one to make me concerned when we have him - nor did Webb use to be, but now he always looks like another c**k-up waiting to happen - although as likely to go for us as against.

I'm basing my praise of Wiley on his performance in the 4-1 mauling we dished out at Old Trafford.

I like Wiley's manner in making decisions. The big ones he takes 5 seconds to make them. I really like that about him. Even if he gets it wrong.

are you including Liverpool in that?

He's had a poor time refereeing our games recently. He's not given a few stick on pens to us.

But that may be because I remember those decisions as opposed to the ones in our favour.

I hate this about him now though...

Keane goes through, fouled by Carvalho

Webb: Crouch down a bit like you are looking at it from a better angle and do the no pen arms crossed and then uncrossed gesture (think Rafa's beyond the pale gesture against Blackburn last season)

I know he was suspended for most of last season, but has Clattenberg, one of the best in my opinion, reffed a Manc match since sending The Tramp to the stands when playing at Bolton in November 2007 ??

Power over officials, who would believe it

Yep, he was on MOTD on saturday.

Think he booked that Stoke player harshly for a dive. Looked like a pen to me.

It was almost comical watching Webb run away from Keane after he bottled another decision, pretending he couldn't her the player say "if i wasn't a penalty then give me the yellow card".

Carvalho's face should have been enough for Webb to know what happened

Someone mentioned on the Guardian MBM how, whenever there's an incident, he always sprints up to it and makes his decision to make it look like he was right on the spot and clearly keeping up with play, when actually he was yards away and that's why he had to sprint at all.
