Was talking to Cally last summer & he mentioned this. Top, top bloke

FORMER Liverpool FC players Ian Callaghan and Gerry Byrne were among members of England’s 1966 World Cup-winning squad to be presented with their winners’ medals at a reception in Downing Street yesterday.

In 1966, only the 11 players on the pitch at the final whistle were awarded medals.

Yesterday, Prime Minister Gordon Brown handed newly-minted replicas out to the other players and families of the backroom staff.

The players and their families later boarded an England team coach for Wembley where they were presented on the pitch before the England game.
