honourablegeorge Posted March 31, 2008 Posted March 31, 2008 (edited) Was asked by Sky after the game if he was enjoying playing his current position. Still couldn't bring himself to say a simple "yes" and just avoided the question. Why is it that he blanks every single opportunity to back the manager? Is he just a miserable git? Benitez Posted March 31, 2008 Posted March 31, 2008 yes he is a miserable git, but he's a fantastic player. So I'll gladly put up with his miserable-gittidness People know what he's like, he's never been gushing! And neither has Rafa, so it kinda evens itself out.

Followed by a three minute debate in the studio about his best position. The whole thing is tiresome.

Aye, that's exactly it. Jamie Rednapp went on his usual wrongheaded "Gerrard in the centre crusade", as ever. Can't fault Gerrard's contribution on the pitch lately, just think he could be a little more positive off it, especially as captain. He could put thsoe debates to bed very quickly with a simple "yes", but time and again he chooses not to.
fred milne Posted March 31, 2008 Posted March 31, 2008 As poor as he was in the first half at Old Trafford, he was outstanding yesterday. Superb performance.

When asked, he didn't actually avoid the question, he replied " If we're winning games, you're happy. I'm happy there if we keep winning"
MFletcher Posted March 31, 2008 Posted March 31, 2008 (edited) Which implies that he doesn't really like the position at all because "I'm a central midfielder, Geoff" and he'll get a bit sulky if we don't continue our good form. A simple "yes, very happy" would have sufficed. Edited March 31, 2008 by MFletcher

You can't tell me you're not fed up of the whole 'Gerrard position' debate that was peddled out on Sky again yesterday? He could end it by simply saying he's "very happy" playing there, rather than implying he doesn't like it but will put up with it while we're winning.

We all know what a great player he is, and wax lyrical about it often enough. But I think it's fair to point our players' failings, and I think this is one of Gerrard's.
sean Posted March 31, 2008 Posted March 31, 2008 Please let's not do this again! He's a fantastic player but he's a moody git. Big deal.

For chrissake this forum is getting worse and worse for 'reading' into something that isn't there. Every single remark, comment or reply in the media gets pulled apart and then gets twisted. Accept what Stevie said 'he's happy there while we are winning' and move on!

Well maybe he's not actually happy playing there. He doesn't have to be happy, he just has to do it.
Elisha_Scott Posted March 31, 2008 Posted March 31, 2008 Maybe he was being professional and avoiding future 'But he was happy playing off Torres, he must be pissed off to be right back/centre mid/in goal' debates that will happen when he plays in a different position. Boring gang of c****!
sean Posted March 31, 2008 Posted March 31, 2008 Oh can admin please f*** this thread off. Ridiculous. He was excellent again yesterday and still we have rubbish threads on his facial expressions post games.

Good point that actuallyIf he says he's happy in that position, then people might start saying he's unhappy if we go back to a 4-4-2'I am happy if Liverpool win' or whatever was probably the best answerOh and he's f***ing boss
Guy_Incognito Posted March 31, 2008 Posted March 31, 2008 They could have got a 'Gerrard position' debate going off any answer whatsoever. It doesn't take much. I think he just goes out to the interviewer determined to give totally non-descript answers that don't actually say anything, just like Rafa. This was another example of that. Non-commital, vague non-answers.

RP Posted March 31, 2008 Posted March 31, 2008 Who needs great players, eh? We just want happy, smiley players.

Gerrard bossing the game in a big match, a must win game (must not lose but close enough) puts in one of his best performances of the season and rather than praising him we are slagging him off for giving SKY nothing. I'd rather he didin't even speak to them let alone agree with them on anything.
